It wasn't as cold today as it had been the last few days. It had been colder on the day of the Reaping than today, and the Reaping was about four days ago. Corina was glad that she had not been chosen from the glass ball at the Justice Building, but her heart still went out to the families of those who had been chosen. Nobody knew how the Games would play out, but everyone in Eight was hoping that their tributes would make it out alive, though there was still the knowledge that only one of them could.
It was early in the afternoon, just after when school let out, and Corina decided to spend her free hours at the marketplace. The bustling area usually prooved to be a far more interesting locale than her own home, even though she did love her family. It was just that she usually preferred to be alone, and her brothers made that quite impossible as they enjoyed messing with her to get on her nerves. As soon as she thought of her brothers, the memory of Eric's return from his flogging flashed in her mind. His back had been hard to see, especially for Corina who cared very deeply for her siblings. But he seemed to be doing better now, and his back had not gotten infected, and it seemed as though the memory would simply fade into the woodworks of history. Corina hoped so, anyways. She and James both had people stare at them at school and work, respectively, and the stares were unwelcome especially to the girl, who liked to be quiet and unnoticed at most times.
Soon enough, the girl's feet had taken her to the market, and she gazed around, hoping to find something interesting to do or someone interesting to talk to. After a moment it became clear that something would have to come to her naturally, so she bought a warm loaf of bread and took it outside to savor.
