Amara Cleargrove // District 1 // Finished

Amara Cleargrove. The very name carries knowledge of beauty in District One. Amara is known as a lovely girl, with silken, strawberry blonde hair and deep, expressive, chocolate eyes. With a pretty face and an attractive body, Amara is considered to be one of the prettiest and most desirable girls in District One.

Amara has a toned but lithe body which is obviously flexible. She works out at the training center in One with cardio, which keeps her from getting too noticeably muscular but also makes her very strong and athletic. The girl stands at about 5”3, making her rather short, and she weighs around 110 pounds, most of which is muscle. Amara’s weapon of choice is a sword, but she can be versatile with others, so she works to make her body adaptable for many different types of weapons. Her eyes are pretty sharp, which allows for decent aim with a throwing knife, but for the life of her, she cannot get the hang of a bow and arrow.

The skin on her face is clear of blemishes, and she sometimes accentuates her natural beauty with makeup products that her parents occasionally are able to take home with them. However, she has a limited supply and keeps this makeup mostly for important events, such as the Reaping, and when she wears it it isn’t much. Her lower body and torso are riddled with bruises and cuts from training, but she has learned to bear these with grace and dignity, and she usually gives as good as she gets. Her eyes can be expressive but she has mastered the cold, unfeeling stare of a Career tribute, even though she is still in training. Her plump lips seem to be in a pout most of the time, but her smile is dazzlingly white.

Amara Cleargrove is a bit of a snob. She is known as one of the top students at the training center for Careers and certainly knows it. Extremely proud, imperious towards others, and only hangs out with those she deems worthy (which only include other Careers,) are all words to describe Amara. She is vicious in battle and vicious in social situations; a cold-hearted person all around.

As stated before, Amara is very skilled with a sword; it is almost as though it is an extension of her arm. She is one who thoroughly enjoys a good workout, and the victors that train her make sure she gets a good one everyday. As far as her weaknesses in combat go, she despises a bow and arrow, and can never seem to throw a spear quite right, but she is constantly working on the skills that need improvement. Amara is a very competitive person who fights to win; when she volunteers for the games, or if she does, rather, she will be a force to reckon with.

In her everyday life, Amara can be quite snobbish; she only hangs out with other careers, and acts as though all other people her age aren’t worth her time. However, she doesn’t exactly go out of her way to exclude them; it just happens naturally. Those who aren’t from the training center are usually intimidated by the cold stare that she presents to those outside the training center. And while her friends are all from the training center, that certainly doesn’t mean she trusts them; in fact, her personal philosophy is to trust no one, especially those she has seen fight. The only people she might consider trusting are her parents and her trainers at the center. They are the only ones who have proven to be trustworthy in the past. Sometimes Amara wishes she could get close to someone, maybe even in a romantic way, but then she realizes that if she did, the Games would exploit that and she would have to end that person in the arena. She stays away from all romance as a rule of thumb.

Amara was lucky to be born. Her mother was very ill when she became pregnant, and wasn’t expected to make it through the pregnancy. But on a cold night, in a blizzard, Amara came forth into the world. Her mother was said to have declared that Amara would go on to do great things. Throughout her childhood, Amara was a relatively normal child. She went to school everyday, had friends, and played with them. But from an early age, she took on an obsession with the Games; every year she looked forward to seeing each tribute and took a special interest in the weaponry each one used. So, from the age of eight, her parents allowed her to be trained by the victors of the past.

Amara quickly showed an affinity for the sword and other close-range, melee weapons. She loved her training with a passion, even though she came home with bruises and cuts, and even broken bones a few times. But Amara never cried with pain; it simply was not her style to whine about injuries when more would surely come. When it came to her practice with hand-to-hand combat, she was lacking but not terrible, but her true aggravation came in long-range weapons; more specifically, bows, throwing knives, and spears. Eventually, the girl improved in these but they are still a daily headache that she simply can’t get the hang of.

Now Amara is sixteen and nearing the age at which most Careers are chosen by the victors to compete in the Games. Her dearest wish is to win her family and her district honor and glory by winning the Hunger Games, but first she must impress the trainers in the training center in order to be picked. Everyday she still goes to the center to exercise and practice, and she gets more deadly everyday. It’s only a matter of time before she is chosen.
