Rita Winters
There wasn't a single day when Rita didn't feel lonely. And being alone was always more creepy than anything else. Rita knew she shouldn't think about something like that, but sometimes she couldn't help doubting her family. She wondered if they ever actually remembered about her. It was hard to live without their mother, she understood that. But it was too tough for her to endure coming to an empty house every day, knowing no one else would show up until late evening. She felt abandoned every time she was at home, so she just did her homework somewhere in the corner of a street and went wandering around the district for the rest of the day. She knew her father was working in the mines to get her and her sister some food, but it somehow felt wrong that he was almost never around. And since Poppy got herself a job to support their family, there was no one left. Not a single soul.
This day wasn't any different. Rita didn't want to go home, because even a thought about going inside the cold house and sitting there, forgotten by everybody, was enough to make her feel sick. She went to find herself some safe place to sit and read, and finally discovered a narrow, dirty street with an abandoned shack and a dead end. She remembered coming here a few days ago and thought that the place was ideal for spending the rest of her time in silence. It was just as quiet as it was at home in here, but nothing reminded her of her dad and sister, so it looked just like a perfect spot to reside at. She leaned against the wall of a screechy wooden building and opened her book.
Suddenly Rita noticed someone's figure in the distance, going in her direction. She didn't feel like talking to anybody, but didn't want to go away. As the person came nearer, Rita recognized her. It was Parsley, a mmidwife. Rita had heard a few rumors about Parsley before, and not all of them were nice. However, what she understood, was that Parsley indeed knew how to heal people, despite the fact that district twelve wasn't actually the science district. Rita was always curious, how Parsley could learn all the stuff she knew. And right now she didn't have much to do anyway, so she decided to talk to her. Why not? Maybe, her father was wrong when he said she had to work in the mines or in the bakery, maybe there was something else. Rita wasn't completely sure if it was awkward or not to come up to a stranger and greet them, but that's what she did. "Hello". That sounded a bit strange, but it was the best way to start a conversation, right?
