Anthem - Day 4

The night comes on slowly after a humid day. There’s so much color in the sky at sunset, you might think a fire has taken hold of the arena. But it’s only Capricious leaning heavily on the saturation controls. For a brief moment before the anthem chimes, her distorted face fills the sky. Then the crash of cymbals threatens to deafen and the faces of the fallen appear:

Three dead, which seems like far too many and far too few. Fourteen children must die before you can go home. With despair, you realize that in spite of yourself, you’ve come to know a few of the others. There’s no easy path forward.
