Asher Ortega - District 8

Asher is a relatively skinny boy, considering he comes from one of the lower districts in Panem. He had dark brown eyes from his mother, and darker blonde hair from his father.

Since his family is pretty poor, he can never afford to wear expensive clothing. He usually wears randomly colored T-shirts or sweatpants that his parents get from working in the factories, and they're never very warm during the winter.

He stands at 5'4'' and weighs 110 pounds.

Always the optimist, Asher tries to make others feel happy. He finds joy in helping others, and he loves to spend time with people in need, or donate food to people that need it more than him. His goal in life is to be as optimistic as possible, hopefully bringing some light into the dark world that he lives in. His friendly nature makes it fairly easy for him to meet new people and acquaintances, so he has many friends.

On the downside, his optimism can make him a bit narrow-minded. He doesn't like to hear anything that's sad or depressing, because he's afraid that it will drag him down. Others find it annoying that he's constantly avoiding certain topics of conversation. He's also a little too trusting with other people, because he doesn't see the world for what it is; a dark, evil place.

He's really oblivious to the Hunger Games. He knows they exist, but he always assumes that they don't really affect him. There's such a low possibility of him actually getting Reaped, that he doesn't like to even think about it. He's neutral towards the Capitol, and knows not to mess with the Peacekeepers.

Although life for some people is filled with loss and grief, Asher has lived a pretty normal life so far, one that other children would envy. His parents were loving couple that are very kind towards their son. They love how optimistic he is, and he's their point in living.

His younger sister Kara (11) looks up to him, and he's her idol. He loves to play with her and make her laugh. His parents spend so much time at the factory that he practically raised her since she was a toddler. Even though he's only two years older than her, he's much more mature.

The Ortegas suffered a major financial issue when their house was robbed two years ago, and they're slowly recovering. Both of Asher's parents are working hard at the factory, and he's doing odd jobs here and there to scrape up a little extra cash to put food on the table.
