I regrouted the brick today. Used up every bit of the paste at my disposal to make the walls firmer than ever before, but this time I got the job done after moving the walls closer to my body. Closed the remaining space between me and the rough, textured clay so I no longer have to envision being in here with people who I manage to let in, who manage to worm their way through them to give me company.
They'll leave anyways. They always do, at some point; once the exciting sensation of finding a new person to entertain themselves with dies, uncovering every bit of information about them--the traits, the interests, the quirks, the secrets--they'll have fulfilled their purpose of doing so. With bored and tired eyes, breaths, demeanor, they leave to find a new puzzle to unravel. It's happened to me a bunch of times, the friendships never go far and eventually we just drift apart. If we do meet again, it's as if we never did in the first place. Strangers once more.
More importantly, it's happened to mom. Dad left when I was little, he never meant to take it this far with her but managed to stomach his venomous intentions until after I came to be. Then he took off, and recently she's found another person to take his place.
He'll leave though. They always do.
No wonder I surround myself with these walls.
