Kay’s Foot.
All I heard was a big boom.. and then it was all gone. I had no more feeling, there was no urge to help my master walk. She lost her footing, quite literally, and I was separated from her.
This little toe went to the forest..
Landing in the trees, my big toe, by far the strongest of my five, launched itself all the way to the surrounding forest. It descended through the trees, crashing through the leaves and branches. I screamed out for the toe, but there was no reply.
A piece of me died.
This little toe ran down the stream.
The next, the super long toe, splashed into the scandalous water. It twisted and turned, went above and below water. I prayed that the toe would be okay.. and I would find it someday. But for now, it is moist in the stream praying that it will find a paradise.
This little toe went to the wheat.
My middle toe was for sure a foodie. The middle child always is, always wanting to get the most out of a meal. It was ironic that he landed in the wheat as it is a promised land for anyone who wants food. I hope that there aren’t any animals who prefer eating human toes in this arena.
This little toe went into the caves.
As a foot, my hearing is obviously very good. I could hear my fourth toe’s echo as it bounced down the cave. My poor child.. I wish I could save you, but Master Kay cannot take me. Please stay safe, my baby.
This last little toe.. she stayed with me.
The pinky toe didn’t run away, she didn’t get forced from her mother’s arms. I curled her up close, refusing to let her go. She was safe, but Mamma Foot was injured. I cried, and she cried. We cried together.
”Sweet little angel,” I whisper, from foot to toe. ”It’s only a dream. It’s only a dream.”
I inhale and listen to my Master and her allies’ scream out in reaction to my Master.
But they do not scream out for me. I’m a nonentity.
”It’s just a game.”
I exhale, and try to breathe in once more. But I don’t.
”Why can’t we wake up then, Mamma Foot?”
I cannot manage to let out a reply.
Master Kay may have survived.. but her foot. It died.
And there was no cannon for her children to mourn over.
[end of kay’s foot.]
