Zagreus Moon. I've always been told that's an interesting name. Though, I suppose it fits, as I've always been told that I'm an interesting person. I've never been the most well behaved, nor the most respectable person. Or at least, not since my parents taught me that I needed to be tougher. I used to be quite weak, both physically and mentally. I was the guy that people kicked around and made fun of, but not any more. Now, if anything, I'm the one that kicks others around. It's not that I'm a terrible person, but I'm not a fantastic one either. It's just a lot easier not to have to be nice to every person I come across, every time I speak.
It seems that nowadays, I spend most of my time on my own, or with one of the few friends that I have. Often, I'll just do things to entertain myself, even if they're not exactly things I should be doing. I remember that one time, I broke into an abandoned house and was scolded for it by another girl in the District. I never saw her again, though, so I didn't have to deal with her confronting me again. No, I didn't hurt her or get rid of her in any way. It's just coincidence that we haven't encountered one another since then.
Once in a while, I'll wander about the District, scoping people out, just to see what kinds of things they're doing. Normally, it's not all too interesting to me. They're generally just walking, working, talking with others or just finding some other completely legal and safe way to enjoy themselves. That's not really my idea of fun, as I much prefer risks, but to each their own, I suppose. The reaping is getting closer, too, so a lot more people are being extra cautious, making sure that they don't get into unnecessary trouble. I'm not like that, though. The reaping doesn't scare me, and as long as I've been old enough for it, it never has. One shouldn't be surprised if I were to jump up to volunteer one day. After all, my parents want me to be in the Games, and if I can do that, it'd make me rather satisfied, too.
I purchase tesserae each year, too. I get as much of it as I can, even though my family doesn't need it, simply because it means that I have more of a chance of being reaped for the Hunger Games. It makes me grin when I think of my name booming across the District Square, announcing that I've been chosen for the Hunger Games. I hope I can indeed hear that beautiful sound one day.
Zagreus Moon! they'll shout. For many people, hearing their own name in the District Square, echoing throughout as it's said into the microphone, is terrifying. To most people, it's a death sentence, and they never want to hear it. For me, it's a pleasurable sound. It's a sound that I want to hear. I want it to resonate in my ears, and that of others, so they know who's going in to fight, and who will bring their family, as well as their District, the glory of winning the Hunger Games. I'm sure that if I were to be chosen, that even if I didn't win, no matter how much of a good chance I know I have to do so, that I would still be seen as an idol. People in the Career Districts and the Capitol will be impressed by me, the day I go into the Hunger Games.
