Name: Patrick Hayden
Age: Thirty-Six
Gender: Male
District: Ten
APPEARANCE:
The eyes that Patrick sees the world through are a pair of narrow, crystal blue spheres. When he smiles, the skin underneath his eyes creases, and his teeth show a pearly white. His eyebrows are straight and sparse, and rest quite closely to his eyes. Patrick’s skin is rough and dry, as well as somewhat tanned, which is from being outside in the sun of District Ten so often, although he has little to no freckles on his face. Often seen with tan lines from his t-shirts, he usually dresses in casual clothing, though he has the ability to dress more nicely when he needs to.
Patrick’s face shape is almost square, and his forehead is very broad. His cheekbones are noticeable, but not all too prominent as a part of his appearance. The man also has a square jaw and straight teeth. Patrick also has a somewhat abnormally large nose, which is something he personally hates about his appearance. He tries not to let it bother him too much, but that turns out to be a rather difficult task.
With thin, pale lips, Patrick also has laugh lines around his mouth. He is a joyful man, so this likely results from the significant amount of smiling and laughing that he seems to do on a daily basis. Patrick is close to clean-shaven with his facial hair, but not quite, as he will often have stubble on his face. His hair is generally not combed, but doesn’t look messy, as it doesn’t seem to dishevel itself all too easily. Patrick’s coffee brown hair is a trait that carried down to the appearance of his only child- his beautiful daughter.
Patrick isn’t too much taller than most other full grown men. He stands at five feet and ten inches tall, and has a rather strong build, since he has always been rather athletic. He enjoys going for runs, as well as doing other physical activity to keep himself in shape. Patrick would be seen as a man of average weight, and his calloused hands are slightly bigger than would normally be seen as proportionate to his body. Mr. Hayden often has dry skin, although, it never seems to go away, no matter what he tries to do to cure it.
PERSONALITY:
Family is Patrick’s priority in life. He cares about his husband and daughter more than anything else in the world. He’s a well-educated man that has always been hard-working, and doesn’t tend to give up easily. Some people, however, say that he’s too absorbed in his family and his work to pay attention to other people aside from his husband, daughter and coworkers. This has created a gap for him in the world of friendship. The main friends he has are either from work, people that his husband knows, or the parents of his daughter’s friends.
When it comes to Patrick’s view on the world, he’d likely tell you that he sees it as a wonderful yet terrifying place. Some people may find that to be a very odd description, but his reasoning behind it is that there are many amazing aspects to the world they live in, such as having a tight-knit community, and a loving family, but that there are also terrible things in the world, such as starving people and the terrible Hunger Games that take place annually. His biggest fear in life is losing any part of his family. He feels that it would absolutely tear him apart if he were to lose his daughter, Fauna. It would devastate him just as much to lose his husband, Marcus.
Patrick has a positive outlook on life, most of the time. He doesn’t get angry very easily, but he does get rather offended by things. When he’s offended, instead of getting angry, he usually gets upset instead. This results in him not wanting to talk to anyone, and trying to shut out the world for a while. To cope with this, he’ll usually do something like take out a book to read. He’s always enjoyed reading, ever since he was a child, and even published a book of his own at one point.
HISTORY:
Growing up in District Ten was difficult for Mr. Hayden. His family was always kind to him, but they didn’t have much money. He was home-schooled, so he didn’t meet a lot of friends until he got into the workforce, either. When he eventually did get into the workforce, however, he met Marcus, who is the man that eventually became his husband. It took a few months to get things rolling, but soon, they were together and in love.
After a few years got by, the two men got married. Eventually, they decided to get a surrogate mother to have their daughter, Fauna. Fauna is the biological child of Patrick Hayden, and together, the two men take care of her. The young girl grew exceptionally close with Patrick, calling him Poppy and doing a lot of things together with him. Sometimes, people even tell Patrick that he may be spoiling his daughter too much, but now that he has the money, he doesn’t mind spending it on her, as he feels that it can really show her that he cares about her.
As a child, Patrick often got sick. He would come down with an illness that would leave him in bed for days at a time, which is why his parents had decided to home-school him. Had they had him go to the District’s public school, it’s likely that he would have gotten other children sick. The Hayden boy didn’t mind being home-schooled in some ways, as it did allow him to be at home more often, but he also didn’t like it, because he felt that it shut him off from the other children in the District. This instilled an even worse fear in him, too. He felt that if he were ever to be reaped for the Games, no one would volunteer for him because no one knew him. If that had happened, he felt that he wouldn’t have had even the slightest chance to make it home. Luckily, he never got picked, and is now living a happy life in District Ten.
