Sage Scarborough

It was the first day of training, and Sage wanted to get started. If he was going to survive, not only did he need the skills, he needed to meet other people that would be willing to protect him. Yes, he had Affron. That was already clearly established as soon as the older boy volunteered. Anyone else, however, Sage would have to find. Therefore, he decided to wander around the room a bit before settling on a station. He looked to Affron on occasion. Sage tried not too glance at him too often, though, as he knew that it was likely that he was still frustrated with him after their little conflict on the train. In the end, though, Sage knew that Affron was there for him, which was rather... comforting.

Sage and Affron eventually made their way over to an area where blue, foam mats were on the floor. There were two boys standing atop them, wrestling or doing some sort of fighting. Initially, Sage's instinct was to stop the fighting, until, of course, he realized that they were training. The boy's gaze shifted to his best friend once again, then back to the boys that were on the mat. They really seemed to be fighting quite a bit, and some of it didn't look just like practice. In a way, it seemed like they genuinely wanted to beat each other up. That was when Sage couldn't hold himself back any more. Without meaning to, his voice was a bit louder than he expected when he spoke.

"Hey! Are you guys training or fighting, because it looks a little rough. Chill out," Sage said out of instinct. This, however, got him a sharp jab in the side from Affron.

"You're not their mother," Affron said in a harsh whisper.

History has to repeat itself sooner or later. It was our destiny, I guess. Somehow, we found each other's company both annoying and hated, yet oddly comforting. The human standing in front of me will make the worst enemy as I've found out but he could also make the best ally as well. He is crafty and careless. Much like myself but I'm stubborn and I will never let him show me up again. That's for sure.

"Come on, Marcus. You've fought harder before. Or do I need to kick you with my wooden leg to prove it?" I antagonize him and shift on my foot, dragging the fake appendage to keep me steady. It's definately different not using a crutch after all this time. In the arena, there will be no crutch. I'm lucky that they even let me keep my...

"Ow! Hey. That was a cheap shot!" I grumble after his fist nails me in the shoulder, but I had kept it unblocked. I was asking for it, obviously. "You never did fight fair."

My stability wavers for a moment but allows me a new angle to shoot and my fist is nailed into his side, under his raised arm. His ribs were my prime target and a light chuckle escapes knowing that this fight is more than just a silly training session. So much more...

"Hey! Are you guys training or fighting, because it looks a little rough. Chill out." The voice demands and I am not one to take demands. My attention isn't drawn away from Marcus though. I know better than to take my eyes off of him. With another comment drifting on the stale air I have to agree with the other guy.

"He's right.This is between us." Looking and acting tough just might ward away those intending to do harm. Two for the price of one.

Training: most tributes may see it as a way to prepare for the games. For the careers, it's a time to show off. For me, it's an excuse to beat up Seth in front of people without getting in trouble. I had "challenged" him to a "duel" today. Sadly, I had to phrase it as though I wanted to train with him. I guess I didn't even need to ask him if I wanted to beat him up. I think he would have loved to beat me up as well. Regardless of how I phrased it, he said yes.

I instantly feel the adrenaline once I step onto the training mats the Capitol had laid out for sparring purposes. I guess they don't want they're wee little tributes getting hurt before having them killed off. How sweet of them to care about us. Whatever. That's not the real reason why I'm here. Let the sparring begin.

After throwing a couple punches, he's the one who breaks the silent fight. "Come on, Marcus. You've fought harder before. Or do I need to kick you with my wooden leg to prove it?" Bitch. As he shifts his weight, I notice an opening for his shoulder. I swing and hit my target. "Do you still stand by your previous comment?"

"Ow! Hey. That was a cheap shot! You never did fight fair." I can't help but to laugh at his comment. "Ha! Fair? Suck it up, princess. The Hunger Games ain't fair. You gotta take the cards you're dealt with." The next instant I feel a pain on my side. "Dammit!" I guess i deserved that for being too cocky. I better not let my guard down again.

A new voice appears from off the mats. "Hey! Are you guys training or fighting, because it looks a little rough. Chill out." What? I quickly glance over to notice two boys watching us. "Shut the fuck up, unless you want to join." I here the second person say something, and then Seth agreeing with him. "What a dumbass, whoever said that," I mutter to Seth as I aim my foot into the side of his stomach, but hit too low and collide with his hip instead.

The training centre smelled of sweat and cleaning supplies, a smell Affron had been accustomed to over the past week. He couldn't quite get used to the stench of foreseeable death of all of the tributes training in the room, however. The amount of training equipment that surrounded them gave Affron anxiety; so many things to study, to train, to remember for when he is released into the arena. He had mostly stuck by Sage's side throughout the duration of the training - however, he often found himself lost and confused when Sage wasn't by his side directing him on what to train on.

They walked together, searching for the next training activity to sharpen their skills on. Affron's eyes shifted toward a pair of tributes. They were training - no, brawling. Let them murder themselves before the arena opened. It saved less tributes to kill during the Games, he thought.

Affron planned on walking by, not paying any attention to the brawling tributes when Sage had to open up his mouth. "Hey! Are you guys training or fighting, because it looks a little rough, chill out." Affron narrowed his eyes towards Sage, mentally warning him to stop speaking. They didn't need any enemies before they even stepped in the arena. "You're not their mother," he glared towards his district partner.

His eyes glanced back towards the tributes, who's attention was now focused on the duo. "But maybe you guys should save it for the arena," he added, with a small smirk. He took a couple of steps towards the two tributes. They looked pissed off, but worst comes to worse, he was confident enough in his hand-to-hand combat skills that he wasn't scared of the two boys. "After all, that's where you'll be doing the killing."

Sage Scarborough

The boys on the mats were getting quite into their fight. One of them even seemed to catch the other off guard at one point, jabbing him pretty hard. Sage hated watching people fight like this, but he was at least relieved that neither of them really seemed to have a significant disadvantage. At home, Sage really never got into fights. If anything, he got attacked sometimes, and was always the one with the disadvantage.

"He's right. This is between us," one of the boys said. So far, Sage didn't have the best impression of District Seven's tributes, seeing as these were the only ones he'd met so far. This first comment didn't really bother Sage too much, even if they didn't give off the best first impression. The next words that escaped the mouth of one of the boys, however, made Sage rather frustrated.

"Shut the fuck up, unless you want to join."

Excuse me? Sage thought to himself. Anyone who spoke to him that way was not going to be on his good side. Though, Sage needed to make it onto other people's radar as someone they didn't want to kill, as he really didn't want people hating him in this place. Unsure of what to say to not cause any more conflict, however, Sage was relieved when his District partner spoke up.

"But maybe you guys should save it for the arena," he told them. "After all, that's where you'll be doing the killing."

Affron was right, and Sage agreed with him. Although, he had less of a wish to make enemies and more of a wish to make allies, meaning that he'd have to just brush off what was happening.

"Nah, I'd rather not join you guys," Sage said with a slight laugh. He wanted to lighten the situation, not worsen it. "Though, as he said, don't kill each other before the arena. That's kind of frowned upon by the Gamemakers. Plus, if you wait, you can do more than just punch each other."

Fighting fair was the last thing I was wanting to implement. No, with Marcus, he deserved every bit of pain I could give him before the games started just so he would know the fact that I am not about to play this shit with him. However, using him as a punching bag for shits and giggles was absolutely necessary. Taking every cheap shot I could because this is the fun moments before the serious begins.

"I'm no princess." I shatter his view as the uninvited guests invade our private session. However, Marcus doesn't seem to waste any time making friends with them, telling them to fuck off. A chuckle evades my lips and I turn my gaze to a trainer. If things were going to get out of hand, then surely they'd interviene.

"But maybe you guys should save it for the arena. After all, that's where you'll be doing the killing." He has no idea what he's talking about. We're old enemies and telling us to holt our grudge would be like torturing us till the beginning. This is needed. It's needed to get out the frustrations we have against each other before we kill each other in the arena. We are each other's only hope now - a taste of home. How can we kill one another now when there's more to it?

"Then you shouldn't have interviened our spar." Shockingly, I can't believe that I am turning into Marcus with snappy comebacks. I try to knock it down a level with a half-assed grin. "But appreciate you making sure we saved it for the arena. How kind."

Then an idea.

"Why don't you two join us then? We could use some - new techniques. We've battled each other before. What say you?" I hold my hand out in jest for a friendly fight and flicker my eyebrows to Marcus with a plan.

Seth complains about not being a princess. I scoff at his statement in an amused sort of way. I hear footsteps of one of the other tributes. I feel myself tighten up. They better not join us. Wait. I could use a different punching bag. But maybe you guys should save it for the arena." I tune out the rest. Then I hear the other one speak. "Nah, I'd rather not join you guys. Though, as he said, don't kill each other before the arena. That's kind of frowned upon by the Gamemakers. Plus, if you wait, you can do more than just punch each other."

I'm about to reply with another snappy comment before I hear Seth say something I wouldn't have expected from him. "Then you shouldn't have interviened our spar." Shit, that was almost exactly what I was gonna say. "I'm with this nerd for once. If you didn't want to join us, you should have kept your mouth shut." "But appreciate you making sure we saved it for the arena. How kind." I give Seth a side look. Was that sarcasm? Please be sarcasm. What ever that was, it was perfectly said.

"Why don't you two join us then? We could use some - new techniques. We've battled each other before. What say you?" I begin speaking to Seth in a hushed tone. "Dude, what the hell are y--oh." I notice the flicker of his eyebrows, which I manage to figure out that he has something planned. "Whatever your plan is, it better be kicking these guys's asses," I say so that Seth only can hear. I glance at the two boys who dared interrupt us and gave them an annoyed smile. I hope they like a good ass-whooping.
