Starlight shines down on the roof of the training center, my forest green eyes staring up at the constellations for one of the first times in my life.

In district eight, dark clouds of pollution riddled the sky, only allowing for rare, brief, glimpses of small portions of the shining stars up in the darkened sky.

They reflect in my eyes now as I lay on my back. The capitol "graciously" provided an easy way up to the roof by way of elevator. It was probably to give many of us a chance to see one beauty in our lives before they were cut short. Maybe if the capitol had put more effort into keeping the districts clean, we may not even need this pleasure. Each star would just be another star floating in a sea of blackness instead of something so much more.

I sigh as I lay on my back, gazing upwards for what seems like an eternity.

Soon, I may not be able to see the stars. I may be underground, or trapped in a dense forest, or dead.

At least that moment is far enough away, so that I can enjoy the moments here and now.
