Ghosts like nighttime best. 

He knows, he's become one. In the way he slinks through the hallways, letting the moonlight shimmer against his skin, the way he flinches at every sound that bounces against the walls. It's the same image every time, the same woman who has struck fear in him since he was reborn, blood splitting through his head like lines through a kingdom. Ghosts like nighttime best, the way he reaches for his family in every nightmare that sprints across his mind in the dead of night. It's the same every time, ending with a bullet in his head. 

After a while, he gives up on sleep and brings the dead of night back to life, the ghost of a boy ripped from death taking to the hallways. Tonight, he searches, desperate for anything to tell him who he was, for anything that could help him. Tonight, he looks for a memory of a girl, pieced together from the shattered glass shards of his hopes and dreams. He wanders the halls like a snake hunts prey, silent and with ambition. his fingertips glide against door handles, jiggling them ever so slightly. 

So blind, so lost, he bites at the regret of coming here. No. 

Anything is better than there, with her. He rubs at the scars that run along his spine, she burned him for doing this exact same thing. For searching, for wanting to know. 

He's looking for a girl, but a girl finds him in the daze he throws himself in, icy fingertips wrapping around his arm and, suddenly, he is thrust into darkness for the second time in his life.

A hand presses to his mouth. "Don't say anything. They'll hear us."

Shotgun, bang, he loses the mask for a second, fire burning in his cheeks as he slaps the hand from his mouth, eyes adjusting to the darkness and he is poised, ready to strike back. Instead, he softens, melting against the fire that burns in his eyes. 

Desperate, afraid, lost- he sees himself for the briefest moment. 

He peers gently out the door before shutting it again, pressing his hands on the girl's shoulders to settle her shaking. 

"Who..? Who is going to here us?"
