Josephine Wheeler
APPEARANCE
The dark blonde hair that Josephine has is often in slight waves, and reaches down to her shoulders. Her good posture gives her a confident appearance, and she appears very respectable. Josephine also has blue eyes with a tint of gray to them, which has been passed down to one of her daughters. Mrs. Wheeler dresses simply, making sure to wear clothes that are more functional than fashionable. In general, this includes wearing neutral colors, such as black, white, brown and gray.
Josephine looks a bit older than she actually is. She has laugh lines on her face, and what seems like creases in her cheeks. The nose that rests on her face is of average size, and doesn't stand out too much in comparison to her other facial features. The woman's full, pink lips form a beautiful smile, sometimes including the reveal of her pearly white teeth. Her nails are normally painted and cut well, and she is sure to keep herself cleaned up the best that she can at all times.
Josie isn't all too tall, but is of more of an average height. Her weight is healthy for her body type, as well. Unfortunately, with feet that are quite a bit uneven, she's found herself having to have shoes that are one entire size apart. This also results in her being a bit off balance when she stands and walks. Luckily, this is one of the only appearance flaws she has that actually effects her life. Her other appearance flaws, such as having calluses on her feet, or the fact that her hands are almost always very dry, don't have an impact on her day to day life. She hopes that it remains that way, as any sort of medical problems popping up would likely make her less capable of properly caring for her children.
PERSONALITY
Josephine Wheeler is a thirty-four year old woman who has a strong love for her family. She would do absolutely anything in her power to protect them, and gets very upset if something happens to them that she can't control. One particular occurrence that triggered this feeling of helplessness and frustration was when her own daughter, Leticia Wheeler, volunteered for the 75th Hunger Games. This devastated her, and has been extremely difficult to cope with. At first, it even made her wonder if she hadn't been a good enough mother, and perhaps that was why Leticia left her. She still doesn't understand what reasoning Leticia could have had for putting herself into the Hunger Games, though, as she is no longer sure that her parenting was the reason.
Often called 'Josie' by those that know her well, Josephine has always been a kind woman. She cares for others deeply, and hates to see anyone in pain, whether that be physical or emotional. On a regular basis, Josie will often be found helping those in need, supplying them with what she can spare, whether that be food, clothing, or her time. The woman is very hard-working and determined, as she is easily able to find motivation for herself. She did, however, have a hard time with this when Leticia first left, but is beginning to improve, getting back to her determined state that she used to be in all of the time.
Everyone has flaws, of course. Even though Josie is a very kind woman with what seems like a heart of gold, she is full of self-hate. She often feels guilty for things that aren't even her fault, or that were out of her control, and this tends to make her emotionally weak. If she is in one of her phases of self-hate, it isn't uncommon for Josie to start to cut herself off from anyone outside of her family. Solidarity is something that helps her cope with her problems, though during her time alone, she often ends up having emotional breakdowns. Josephine is currently attempting to work through these problems, but finds it to be very difficult for her.
As a protective mother, Josephine often gets worried about her children. One thing in particular that always worried her was when Leticia would wander off somewhere other than school without telling her mother. This would often put her into a panic. Whenever Josie panics, she tends to start blaming herself for things. She also begins to unintentionally think of the worst possible things that could happen in the circumstances. Leticia isn't the only one that Josephine gets worried about, though, as she also believes that there is something afflicting Aileen, even if she can't quite put her finger on what it could be.
HISTORY
It's become difficult over the years for Josephine to raise her three children. Her husband passed away when her eldest daughter, Leticia, was three years old, resulting in her raising them on her own for the rest of their lives. The woman cares greatly for her children, and would do anything to protect them. She has always done everything in her ability to help them live safe, normal lives, even though they only have one parental figure looking after them. It's not unusual for her to be seen as an overprotective mother, either. This is likely because she is terrified of losing her children.
Growing up wasn't easy for Mrs. Wheeler. She was raised in a rather poor family that didn't have a way of making any extra cash. Josephine was taught to live minimally, not taking more than she needed no matter what the circumstances may have been. Her parents were kind to her, although they were also very strict. They always made sure that she was doing what needed to be done, and that she always followed the rules. If she was out of line, her parents were sure to implement the correct type of punishment for her.
At the age of seventeen, Josephine met the man that would eventually become her husband. They met in school, and bonded rather quickly. The two spent a lot of time together when they got the chance to, and eventually ended up getting married when Josephine was twenty years old. It was very unfortunate and devastating to Josie when her husband died, however, and she still mourns his death today. Losing any more people that are an important part of her life is something that Josephine fears more than anything else.
