Things were more and more difficult every single day that Joule was forced to watch the terror of the Hunger Games unfold on her small television screen. All she could think about when she witnessed each death was about how it had happened to Bolts. It was fresh in her mind. It happened just last year, after all. She had been unable to help him when he was reaped. She couldn't protect him like he had protected her throughout her entire life. No, instead, she felt useless. Helpless. Pathetic.
The red haired girl needed to get her mind off of tragedy for a little while, but that was an extremely difficult thing to do. She needed to hone the craft of ignorance, and that as something she'd never quite mastered. It was impossible for her to be forgetful of something so important. She could remember when she spoke at her brother's funeral, and how her words just begged him to come back. Though, there was nothing that could be done. He was gone to matter what.
All that Joule could think of that could possible distract her, even if it was just for a short amount of time, was to go for a walk. Sure, she used to take these walks with Bolts, but maybe doing so alone would make her realize that she really could be independent. As she slipped on her winter coat and warm boots, she was careful as she went. All too many times Joule had slipped and fallen, and she didn't want that to happen again, especially when she was out on her own. Watching her step as she went and being sure to avoid the ice that made the ground oh so slick, Joule thought about everyday things as she went. Focusing her mind on things such as school had to help her keep her mind off of the Games, right?
After walking for a while, it was starting to get a bit dark. The sun was setting, and the young girl knew she should be getting home so that her mother wouldn't worry that something had happened to her. After all, Mrs. Spark worried about things quite a lot. Joule didn't blame her, though, as she had lost a son no more than one year ago. The girl, however, didn't head home. Despite the potential of her mother's worry and a brief scolding when she did arrive home, she still needed more time to herself. As she got lost in thought, however, she slipped, falling on the ice and landing flat on her bottom. She didn't burst into tears like she had in the past when such things had happened, but instead, simply tried to get up while grimacing thorough the pain that it had caused her.
Joule, however, couldn't quite get herself up off of the ground. The slickness of the sidewalk's pavement was too much for her feet to get a grip, and she remained on the ground in a struggling state. The young Spark girl hated giving up, though. She didn't like to be seen as a child, or at least not a weak one, and she knew that Bolts wouldn't want her to give up. At least, not in such an everyday situation like this, anyway. Joule continued to try to push herself to her feet, but couldn't quite manage to accomplish the task. Instead, she stopped for a moment, and looked around to see if there was anyone nearby that she could call over to help her. It was something that would make her feel a bit embarrassed, yes, but she could still use the assistance. After all, Bolts wouldn't have gotten as far into the Games as he did if it weren't for some help from his allies here and there. Joule spotted someone, and called out to them.
"Excuse me! Would you be able to help me, please?" she inquired of the stranger.
