It was actually quite shocking to District Twelve’s remaining tribute that he’d already made it this far into the Games without any serious physical damage. All he had really sustained when it came to a bodily injury was a broken nose from the very first day. Of course, his emotional damage had a much greater toll, having lost Affron so early on and not knowing how. After all, Sage wasn’t even positive if his close companion had gotten the chance to fight back when he was attacked, or if it was something instantaneous like a crushed skull or his chest caving in entirely. He hated to think of how painful Affron’s demise could have been, and at the same time that he was glad he didn’t have to witness it, he was also severely angered that he wasn’t there to stop whatever happened.
Day Three had begun, and Sage, alongside his only locatable ally, Marcus of District Seven, wandered even further into the arena. They made their way to a new area that they had yet to discover before, but the sixteen year old boy didn’t give himself much time to take in his surroundings. That wasn’t what he felt was important at this point, anyway. The only really important thing right now was survival, and not letting his sister see him slaughtered on live, national television. Being as cautious as he could when he walked, Sage kept an eye out for anything and everything that they could encounter. Whether it be other tributes or a terrible monster of the Gamemakers’ creation, he knew he had to be prepared.
It took a while before the two tributes even came across another sign of life, and Sage hadn’t spoken much at all as they walked, up until he saw movement. Not too far away, he could see something scuttling across the ground, and he wasn’t entirely certain what it was. Unsure of whether or not he should get closer for fear of being attacked, he watched from a distance for a moment, glancing at Marcus on occasion to see what he was doing. Perhaps Sage could determine what his ally was thinking without saying anything to him. After all, Marcus didn’t seem to like when Sage spoke too often. Unable to figure out what Marcus was thinking, Sage gave up and decided to move closer to the moving creatures, scythe at the ready in case they attacked the two of them. That was when he saw what they were; some sort of cross between a crustacean and a telephone. ‘Lobster Telephones’ was all Sage could possibly think of to refer to them as.
”Hey, Marcus, do you see these things? I wonder if they’re edible. I’m starting to get hungry,” Sage said with a slight laugh. Though, his laughter was cut short when one of the Lobster Telephones moved more quickly than expected when Sage had his back turned away from them, and latched onto him. Letting out a slight sound of pain, Sage then tried ripping the creature from his back, but couldn’t seem to remove it. It was stuck quite hard, and there was nothing he could do.
”Fuck! It’s on me! Marcus, get away from that thing!” Sage tried to warn his ally. Marcus never seemed to want Sage’s help, but as someone who always liked to aid others, it was hard for him not to warn the one person nearby that wasn’t trying to murder him at the moment.
