As her birthday wasn't for another two days, Dusty couldn't imagine why her sister insisted on taking her to get her birthday present early. Every year, for her entire eight (almost nine) year life, she would receive her gift on the exact day of her birthday. Joule seemed to have a different idea this year for some reason, though. Dusty, of course, wasn't going to argue about getting an early present. It just seemed a little... different than their usual tradition.
Joule had led Dusty to the District Square, and the young girl with fiery red hair followed along joyously. She was far from reluctant on the topic of getting an early gift, so she certainly wasn't going to fight it. Her sister, only a few years older than her, brought her to a small shop that Dusty had never been to before. Though, the young girl assumed her sister had been, since she seemed to know her way there quite easily. As they entered the shop, a small bell chimed to signal their arrival to the shopkeeper.
The shopkeeper was an older woman that greeted the two girls kindly and told them to let her know if they needed any help. Joule thanked her, and then turned to Dusty, sinking down to her height so she would be able to look her kindly in the eyes as she spoke. The older Spark sister smiled; an odd happening since Bolts's death. Her words were kind, and she seemed to want to make her sister happy. Joule's smile was still on her face when her words stopped coming out, as well.
"Dusty, I'm going to get you a present, okay?" Joule asked. Dusty nodded excitedly. "Alright then," she smiled. "Follow me over to the jewelry counter. I've got something I ordered special for you."
Dusty did as her sister said and followed her over to the jewelry counter. Inside the glass case that was the counter, the younger girl could see many different beautiful pieces of jewelry resting there. Joule had called over the shopkeeper and mentioned that she had an order to pick up, which the old woman kindly said she would go retrieve for them. A small box was handed to Joule, and she paid of it. Then, she turned back to look at Dusty again, once again adjusting the way she was standing to match Dusty's height.
"This is a very special gift for you, Dusty, okay?" Joule said. Dusty nodded excitedly again. Then, Joule opened the small, white, hinged box, and inside was a beautiful, silver necklace with a pendant in the shape of her name, 'Industria'. The young girl was ecstatic! She immediately wrapped Joule in a hug, which was returned. When she released from the hugging embrace, she quickly asked Joule if she could put it on, to which the answer was positive. Removing the necklace from the box, Joule unclasped it, then clasping it again around Industria Spark's neck. It was a beautiful piece of jewelry, and Dusty was in love with it.
"Thank you so, so, so much!" Dusty thanked her sister. Joule hugged the young girl again.
"You're very welcome. Bolts would want you to have that. It was his idea, before he left us," Joule explained.
Then, the two began to head home.
On their way back to the Spark household, however, something caught Dusty's eye when Joule had gotten a little ways ahead of her, and when she was no longer distracted, she didn't know where her sister had gone off to! The youngest Spark girl began to panic, looking around frantically and trying to see if anyone knew where her sister had gone. Then, she spotted another girl who appeared to be only a bit older than she was, and decided, nervously, to approach her.
"Can you help me, please? I'm lost."
