The sun goes down with color enough to set another heart alight with awe, but it is anticlimactic after your day of too bright corruption. The most beautiful things can also be the most terrible and if you didn't know that before today, you certainly know it now. You. You have done terrible things. You volunteered to do these terrible things and it's so hard to remember why as your senses return and you are struck by the clarity of the faces in the sky. The double-time racing of your heart tries to beat for both you and the person you've just killed, but the underlying ache declares that this is unsustainable. Any regret must be cast off or you'll collapse under the weight of it all. This is the way of things here. This is the way of things until the day you can't take it anymore.
