Appearances mean alot in this world. They influence what people think of you and expect of you, and through that it influences how people interact with you. Laurina Larch is a girl whose life can be summed up as a battle against the expectations her appearance puts on her. Born in District 7 and raised in a family of boys, most people look at her and get the impression of a typical strong cold women with some tomboy lumberjack undertones. You wouldn't be all that wrong in thinking that.
Laurina is tall girl, tall enough to probably match most boys and to compliment that height is her strong, broad build that she inherited from her father. Other than her muscles, she's rather lean and still rather feminine spite her muscular build. Her facial features are sharp, especially her and eyebrows giving her a sort of cold looking resting face even if she doesn't at all want to. However, if you do look right into her eyes you'll see her big soft brown doe-eyes that match her just-beyond-shoulder length dark brown hair. Typically moved off to one side or the other, Laurina doesn't really care more for her looks and hair aside from making sure they don't interfere with her when she's working.

Laurina's looks have always given off the impression of a tough cold women uninterested in things like silly conversations but that couldn't be farther from the truth. In reality, Laurina Larch is more of a sweet, clumsy girl with a love for cute things than some ice queen. A girl who holds kindness above all, Laurina can't be any softer but while she really is nice, she is also cursed with a social awkwardness like no other. Her frigidness and anxiety around other people only helps to feed into the icy image people have of her.
Her awkwardness is what holds her back in life and keeps her from a life of being a lovable social girl like all the other girls she sees in school. The only people she doesn't seem to fumble around is her family and children, so her social life isn't really flourishing. Deep down, Laurina believes that everyone she loves will leave her eventually, just like her mother did after she died so she is prone to seeing friendships and other connections like they are just passing anyways. Spite her feelings of abandonment, Laurina deep down desires the normal life full of friends and family that everyone else seems to have. She doesn't know how to get that without pushing people away in fear so in the end she finds herself with her current comfortable life but with the feeling that something is missing.
The family that she does have though she loves with all of her heart. Living with her father and little brother, Laurina is more than protective over time and serves as a sort of motherly figure to her little brother. Really, Laurina falls very naturally into the role of protector with her strong sense of justice and big heart, although she's constantly plagued by thoughts that she isn't good enough to take care of the people she cares about. Still, she always tries her best for the sack of those people, hense why she works with her father chopping trees to help provide and contribute.

Born in the forest she would later work in, Laurina was born to a giant loving teddy bear of a father and a handy carpenter women. While she can't remember too much of her young life, Laurina can remember just how happy things were back then. Three years after Laurina was born, her little brother followed suit. In their youth they were like water and oil so they fought like most siblings do but as things changed and Laurina got older, she became more loving towards her brother
When Laurina was around eight, her mother became ill with what was just supposed to be a simple flu. The stubborn women that she was, she didn't seek any kind of medicine as she figured it would probably be too expensive and wouldn't matter anyways. After 2 weeks she died, slowly loosing her strength and life but even loosing her stubbornness. Her death made Laurina who she is, for better or worse. Everything from her independence nature to her deep-seeded need to help other people to her fear of abandonment stemmed from this event.
Laurina was never a very social little girl, so that made it all the more easier for her to withdraw from people after her mother's death. This sudden withdrawal from her small elementary school friends was the beginning of people viewing her as some kind of socially withdrawn ice queen. While memories of her mother have faded into the back of her head, it's almost like she's haunting Laurina from beyond the grave with all the effects her death had on her daughter. Can this haunted girl made of people's perceptions really move on and find connections?
