Change, that’s all that has been on my mind since the announcement – a mayoral election any anybody can step forwards as a candidate; with certain limitations. An old man like me, a weathered old man who has experienced it all, that is someone I’d want digging out forgotten District and placing it back on a pedestal where it belongs. I have nothing to lose, I have no family to care for, I can make the District my family. No doubt that the rebels will take this as a significant opportunity; a District Eleven rebel, sitting at the helm of the District, what an advantage we will have if that becomes a reality.
A meeting has been called in the bar, less than hour after the announcement. I stand and wait for the first guests to arrive, my hand navigates around the inside of a glass with a cloth, polishing away any stains from past drunk’s lips. I recite my proposal in my mind; there is no doubt that I am the most ideal out of the pack. Many have resided in Detention Centre and others are naïve juveniles with no ounce of experience behind them. Change is what I want and change is what the people need, I am the one for the people, I am the one for this rebellion group to go forwards – for there has not been much progress for a long while.
One by one, the rat pack of revolutionaries come bursting through the door, gathering at the usual table. So many youngsters with dreams of better days, I haven’t many days left for myself and what I’d give just to conclude my life far greater than how I was introduced to it. The youngsters, they are the ones the keep in mind.
I join them with glasses and bottles in hand, my job is the quench the thirst of those that surround me and even with the proposal I am to reveal, that will never end. ”You all obviously know the news.” I begin my announcement by pouring various liquors into glasses. ”I want to go forwards as a candidate. I believe I have the necessary experience and I want to promote change.” My words halt as I leave a bottle on the surface of the table, a chair remains reserved for me but I refuse it for this moment and remain standing beside the table. ”It will put our little scheme of ours at an advantage, if ones of is mayor.”
