Castle Ruined was backstage, getting ready for her speech, when her cousin Lorenzo crossed her mind. Had he been brave, volunteering for the Games, or was it just recklessness? Was Lorenzo reckless? That showed how much she knew her cousin; she didn’t even know what his tendencies were in that regard. Even though they weren’t all too close, she cared about him, though. She cared that he was gone, and wished that he weren’t. She wished he were still around.
Trying not to think too much about Lorenzo, she knew that the time for her speech was nearing closer. If she was going to be mayor, she couldn’t let these sort of things affect her. She was likely one of the youngest mayoral candidates running in all of Panem at this point, as she was as young as one even could be to run. She was only nineteen. Regardless, she felt she was well-suited for the job. Castle knew what she had to do to win the position, too. She had to impress the people of District Five. She would speak her honest ideas, and be sure that she got them out to the citizens of the place that she had lived in her whole life.
Miss Ruined smoothed out her dress and made her way out from backstage. The young woman approached the microphone and gave a smile to the people gathered in front of her, waiting to hear what she had to say to them. Clearing her throat briefly, but not too loudly, she then spoke. She was nervous, yes, but she wouldn’t let that show. She had to express a vibe of confidence. Her face had to say that she was fit to be mayor, and her body language had to show honesty.
“Welcome, citizens of District Five. It is my pleasure to welcome you all here today, and thank you for being present for my speech,” Castle began. “My name is Castle Ruined, and it’s likely that many of you know my family name. That, however, is not what I’m here to speak to you about today. My namesake is not how I plan to win the election. I plan to be elected fair and square by showing you all what I can do for the District that we live in.” Castle realized that she rarely ever introduced herself with her last name when talking with people. It was normally to avoid conversation about her deceased cousins. Perhaps by putting herself, along with her name, out in the open, she could start to put things behind her. Although, she’d never forget Pixie and Lorenzo.
“If I’m to become mayor, I’d like to be able to do whatever I can to assist the District with its troubles. I’d like to help get as many citizens out of poverty as possible, and bring wealth to the District, making people much better off. I’d do this by creating programs for those in need.” She paused for a moment before continuing. “Alongside this, I would also like to make more opportunities for people to work. Our citizens need the opportunity, and I would like it to be available to them.”
Realizing that her time was running low, she was sure to hit her most important points before she wrapped everything up. Miss Ruined continued to speak, though still at a reasonable pace so as not to seem rushed. “I wish to also assess the ever growing problem of disrespect that seems to be present in the District. This disrespect is not just directed towards authorities, but also towards one another.” She was trying her best not to sound either pro- nor anti-Capitol as she said this. Personally, she didn’t mind when people disrespected the Capitol, but she couldn’t outright state that. Honestly, her issue was with people disrespecting one another, as well as the law.
“Of course, everyone says things here and there that they shouldn’t say, or does things that they shouldn’t do. Regardless, these aren’t things that should be promoted. I personally feel that we need to learn to respect one another more, and as mayor, I can help people do so by making the environment of District Five more inviting and friendly,” explained Castle.
“I feel that I’d be a good choice to help make the changes we need in our District. I’d like to thank you all for coming here today, and I hope you all enjoy the rest of your day.”
