Calvin Tripe

Calvin always enjoyed helping people. He wanted to make his family proud, as well as the District's citizens. Therefore, today, he was going to try to make an impression by handing out some campaign flyers with his main ideas on it, and asking people what they though. Hopefully, it would go over well. He'd had someone design the flyers for him, and they gave some of his points, which were;

-Continue to assist those affected by the tsunami
-Control drug abuse problems in the District
-Decrease crime rates

As he was walking down the street, handing out his flyers and talking to a few people who took them from him, he handed one to a boy that looked somewhat familiar, but he couldn't place. Perhaps it was a family appearance that the boy had, and Calvin had known someone he was related to.

"Hello, young man! Would you mind telling me your opinion on my campaign for mayor?" He asked, handing him a flyer.

There was no point following it, he really did not have any idea what it meant. Yoel Staite has no interest in politics. His days spent reconnoitring the District, disrupted by campaign trails. Since it all began, his family has had at least five flyers through the door, from each of the candidates. There is only one that catches his eye really, and that’s the La Torre man, purely based on his name. A tribute relative, surely that’s the one to vote for; surely he shares the pain of the many and not the few. But his parents have vowed to vote for some woman; supposedly her policies are good or something.

And now he sits on the edge of the sidewalk, observing another on his campaign trail, an unfamiliar face mustn’t be one of the popular ones.

"Hello, young man! Would you mind telling me your opinion on my campaign for mayor?"

Yoel takes the flyer from the man, looking down at the bold printed text Calvin Tripe. That name hasn’t been mentioned in his house and now he has been put on the spot. ”Uhmm…err.. I haven’t really been following all of this but,” he pushes himself off the pavement and onto his feet, ”What you gonna do for kids like me?”

Calvin Tripe

Calvin was glad that he'd been acknowledged when he spoke. The man paused a moment when the boy he'd approached spoke to him. As the boy rose from where he was sitting on the sidewalk, he didn't seem too bothered by Calvin approaching him. Although, he didn't seem to know what to say, either. He spoke, a bit hesitant at first.

”Uhmm…err.. I haven’t really been following all of this but,” he said. ”What you gonna do for kids like me?”

Calvin Tripe had to think quickly. He hadn't put anything on his advertising about his other policies, so he'd just have to make sure he said the same exact thing to anyone who asked about them. He did have policies on education and a few other things, but since they didn't seem to be the ones the public was most curious about, he hadn't written them down. Regardless, since he was on the spot, he'd have to say something.

"I do have an educational policy, if you're curious about that," Mr. Tripe expressed. "I'd like to help increase the amount of life-relevant material students are learning in the classroom." He gave a smile, hoping that what he said would be good enough. He'd thought about it before, but never jotted it down, nor mentioned it in his speech. Perhaps that's why he wasn't extremely popular at this point in the election.

What would Yoel do if he was mayor? A lot more exciting things than what the current people are. Politics is probably the dullest thing in Panem and the majority of people running, care more about the careers than everything else. Well, he’d abolish the career training altogether. Obviously it doesn’t help with anything, compared to One and Two; Four only has Leon Krigel to show for their efforts. Daria was slayed by the District Eleven victor, no training helped save her, even if she did kill the District Six. It still plays in his mind, the scenes of death that surrounded his cousin. He can hear the screams; he became his cousin’s ears as she defended herself in an inaudible arena.

"I do have an educational policy, if you're curious about that," A sigh rolls for his mouth as soon as education is mentioned. As if anyone is ever going to get him to do a full week of schooling, this stranger is certainly not going to be the one. "I'd like to help increase the amount of life-relevant material students are learning in the classroom." He regrets agreeing to talk to this man. Yoel’s eyes shift for an escape route but media crowds are dotted across the street, he is just going to have to ride it out.

”Yeah that’s all good and nice,” he crosses his arms and the tone of his voice is rather unlike him, professional sounding…mature, ”other than education, what else?” He just wants to milk this man dry, put on a show for those taking notes and clicking their cameras.
