AMETHYST ZAVERI
District two
"Amethyst, dear, you need to be more careful," came aunt Merryweather's voice as she cleaned the wound on my leg. I'd scraped it when I went on one of my little adventures, wandering about the District by myself. My aunts always warned me to be as careful as possible so that I wasn't hurt, stolen, or worse. Then again, I didn't believe that there were many people who would steal a sixteen-year-old girl, no matter how much my aunts insist that there are. It just doesn't seem logical to me for someone to sweep an innocent teenager off of the streets.
"My apologies, Aunt Merryweather. I will be more cautious next time," I told her. Although, the kind woman didn't respond, and simply kept humming as she put a bandage over the rather deep gash that was on my leg. She'd raised me almost my entire life, along with Aunt Flora and Aunt Fauna. They knew of my habits, including my clumsiness, due to almost always being at least a bit groggy. Aunt Flora often jokingly said that she was surprised when I was awake. Although, I don't blame her. I'm far from having insomnia. Sleep is bliss to me, and it's my favorite hobby, if it counts as one.
"Yes, you will be," Merryweather finally responded. "I'll be sending you out to purchase a few things for me, and you need to be sure that you don't get into any mischief, okay?"
I nodded. I understood what she was telling me very clearly, and I wasn't one to ignore instructions. Therefore, when my wound was cleaned and protected, I hugged each of my three aunts goodbye, was handed a list from one of them of what I needed to get, retrieved a basket and a small amount of money from the jar in the kitchen, and headed out the front door.
As I made my way along, I didn't see anything too out of the ordinary, which my aunt Fauna would say was a good thing. I, however, as a curious individual, wished I could have seen something a tad more interesting. Since there was nothing, though, I simply kept walking. I needed to do what I was told to, and that meant making it to the shops I was supposed to, and purchasing the designated items on my list. It was a bit more boring than I would have liked, yes, but it got me out of the house, which didn't happen as often as I would have liked.
After buying what I needed to, I began to head back to my home to deliver the items from the list to my aunts. As I was going, however, I tripped, my clumsiness taking effect again. I crashed to the ground, one of the apples I had gotten bouncing out of my basket and rolling away. I'd have to purchase another one, now, which was quite unfortunate. At least I had the money, though. Except, the one thing that upset me most about my fall wasn't losing that apple. It was, in a way, disobeying Aunt Merryweather when she had told me to be careful. It was part of her rules that I didn't get hurt, but I didn't listen. Now, with scrapes on my elbows, it would be quite evident by the time that I got home that I had fallen.
