The overhead light flickers, the kitchen cast in a warm hue as Io takes Rose's plate to the sink. Outside the cicadas chirp. Her parents have gone to bed already, Europa's left the house for a quick chat with Anubis. Silently, Io washes off some food particles left on plates before drying them and settling them back on the table. She opens the fridge and pokes her head in, hands grabbing at the box that's been tied neatly with a bow.
"Europa was way too nice and bought one of those bakery cakes," Io says. A small one with a lovely flavor, a single blue flower piped in buttercream. "We used to have these flowers all over the place - hydrangeas I think they're called? But they literally took over the lawn and the cows started getting at it. Dad had to give them to the florist." She smiles, cutting a piece for Rose and herself.
"Our campaigns," she states, talking in between bites. "are really similar - a better work-home life and pay, and where you're focusing you're totally right - there's way too many ODs in the clinic and that's when they're at work. And punishing them for it? Not solving anything."
She takes a sip of tea, gone cold throughout the night. "I actually invited you over because I wanted to make a proposition of sorts."
"I put my hat in to prove a point, and to highlight problems in our district. I don't really expect to win, but if I somehow do, I don't want only my ideas to go forward - that's not how it should work, you know? If we lose, problems that we brought up don't just go away. They're still here. Festering." She runs her hand through her hair.
"So I wanted to say, uh, if I win I'd love your input on actionable items that we could do to improve the District, whether that be formalized as a committee or if you'd prefer a more informal thing. And if you win I'd be happy to do the same: provide knowledge or advice about medical issues and possible solutions, so on and so forth."
"And yeah, uh, that was honestly kind of it. Your ideas are awesome, and I really want to see the things that we're proposing come through.
"And um, it's always nice to see someone from a similar... family situation, do something really great for the District."
Ripred, I talk waay too much.
