Twila Einfallen

Losing Riordan was one of the hardest things in her life.

Facing a scandal about someone who she might or might not have slept with was not the priority of her problems. There were so many other things that she needed to worry about. The fact that voting was going to start soon was another thing that was gonna stress her out. That's why her press manager told her that she needed to hold some sort of conference to speak to the public. A meeting of sorts that would be like the ones that she would plan if she were to be in office.

That's how so many questions about her scandal kept coming up. Every time someone asked about i, all she could do was put a hand on the table, smile and answer in the most serious tone she could muster up. "Why should my private life matter in the slightest? I'm running for office, not becoming some show piece." An eye roll and another question about her relations later and she's already feeling tired and worn out. Whatever the scandal was she didn't care. Her opinion on how to run the district was more important and hopefully people would see that she'd rather do what is good for the people than not do anything.

As the meeting that she set up was coming to a close, she speaks out to the crowd one last time. A smile upon her face as she's ready to close the meeting and hopefully the scandal dies down sooner rather than later. This was the last question for the night. The lucky one to ask her one last thing before she goes back to planning for an event like the other candidates would be doing.

"Last question of the night, everyone. What is it?"

I'd never been very largely into politics. To be completely honest, they bugged me. They'd always been Harrison's thing, before he got himself turned into a tongueless slave. Though, I figured that I'd at least make an effort to listen to some of the politics. as it was likely that people expected me to put in a vote.

For some reason, I'd decide that coming to a conference of sorts was a good idea. The candidate running it was Twila Einfallen. Perhaps that was why I'd decided to come in the first place. She'd lost someone close to her in the most recent Hunger Games. There was no way that could be easy on a person. I'd lost my husband, but not to death. I couldn't imagine if I had.

The woman was asking the audience for questions, and it appeared that many people were only concerned with her private life. I couldn't understand that. It was her business, and her business alone. No one else should be asking about it. It didn't matter what the case was, as it had nothing to do with the campaign. I would have defended the woman if I could, which wasn't something I'd do for many people.

"Last question of the night, everyone. What is it?" she asked. I thought for a moment, and then raised my hand. I had yet to ask anything yet. Perhaps now it was my turn. I was ready to speak out for once. Maybe I was taking after Harrison's good aspects. Hopefully I'd never take after his more negative ones. Actually, I knew I never would. He was a killer, and I'd never be like that.

"What do you plan on doing to help with the legal system? I'm not sure if you have much of a say in it, but when it comes to things like theft, or other crimes that aren't as dangerous, do you think they should have a different form of punishment?" I asked. I had to ask something about the legal system. It was for Harrison.

It's a woman who is the one to make her feel heard and able to speak her mind.

A simple question that wasn't about who she might or might not have had a scandal with. Either way, the woman was interesting. She seemed to hold herself in a light kind of like how Twila held herself up. There was a nice professional look to her. A smile pulls at Twila's lips. The room is quiet, awaiting the question from the woman who hasn't spoken most of the night. All she could do was remember being a little girl giving a speech to her class. They would listen with mindful, but bored ears. Eyes that seemed to wander into an ocean of unwillingness to listen and annoyance. Twila's fingers curl slightly at the bottom of her top. A way to grip herself from the nervousness.

"What do you plan on doing to help with the legal system? I'm not sure if you have much of a say in it, but when it comes to things like theft, or other crimes that aren't as dangerous, do you think they should have a different form of punishment?"

A marvelous question for Twila to answer. The Legal system was not something she had control over, but she could give an opinion about it. Opinions have never hurt anyone before. A hand slides to her pocket as she speaks out to the crowd.

"What a great question! I don't have much say in it, but I do have an opinion on the matter. I do plan to try and help with the legal system, not sure of how to yet, but I'll look into it, if I can. I'd say some of the minor crimes' punishments should be different based on age in some ways. Kids will be kids. They don't know what they are doing at times and still are maturing and learning their morals. Even then though, many steal for the fact that they can't do much else to survive. I want to help them by making sure no one has to do that. I think the punishments should be lighter on the young. As they don't know the consequences of things yet."

That was that. A question answered and a meeting done for her.

Now if only she could find out who came up with a scandal about her private life.

Twila answered my question well. She sounded educated on the topic, and I understood that she didn't have much of a say in the legal system. I didn't expect that she would. She had explained her view, saying that she thought that the young should have different punishments than adults, due to them not knowing as much as older citizens as to what is right and what is wrong. This was true. For example, out sons were too young to understand as much. Harrison, however, knew perfectly well what he was doing when he had killed our neighbor. No matter how much my husband insisted it was to protect me, he understood what his consequences would be.

I gave a slight smile to the woman, and nodded at her.

"Thank you for answering my question," I told her. "I wish you luck in your campaign."

For some reason, the next thing to cross my mind was how she was doing after losing Riordan. How could she possibly handle running for the position of mayor, as well as the recent lost of a loved one? It seemed impossible to me. I'd never be strong enough to do that. Harrison was different. He was still alive.
