The crowd has mostly dispersed by the time Calliope summons the willpower to walk back past the stage. People are still milling about here and there, but it seems to mainly be friends caught up in conversation or families with small children running around playing a game of tag together. They look like nice people. She realizes this is the first time since Galaxy that she's looked at people and thought they looked nice. She was -
A young boy runs up, both his front teeth missing as he giggles and grins, low-fiving Calliope before shrieking and scampering off. "You're it!" Stunned, she laughs a single beat of disbelief as all of the other children glance at her and immediately turn heel to run in the opposite direction. That's more like it.[/] Without thinking twice, she's yanking her shoes off and taking off barefoot into the grass after them. Sprinting past a chubby girl who's too awkward at running to ever catch anyone, she tags a scrappy looking boy on the shoulder instead.
Whirling around, she lets the warmth of the sun sink into her skin, along with the memories of playing like this with her brothers when they were kids. Catching the eye of another girl grown too tall for any of this she simply shrugs, "It's fun." When was the last time something was fun? Another child takes advantage of her distraction and tags her again. "Wanna play?" Without waiting for a reply Calliope taps the girl on the arm and takes off, shouting back over her shoulder as she goes. "You're it!"
