Campaigning is effort, but it’s unexpectedly satisfying. For too long now the only thing Calliope has had to channel her energy into is cooking meth. While it is flawless, unparalleled meth… it’s not exactly what the former honor roll student thought she’d grow up to do with her life. She was always someone who wanted to be the best and do great things. Drug queen was never the goal, but she couldn’t be the reason the last piece of family she had left died. Without that money Poe would be unplugged and she would finally have to admit that she still cares about him, that she would cry over him out of an emotion other than frustrated resentment.
Can’t have that.
Contemplating what she’ll do if she succeeds in the mayoral race is something else entirely. It gives her a reason to think about people other than herself, calming the eternal riot of her heart and reminding her that there can still be good in the world, if she creates it. “Hi, I’m Calliope Bloom,” she sticks her hand out to the person walking by her, genuine confidence in her voice because she’s finally starting to get the hang of all this in her own way, “and I want to know what pisses you off.” It turns out she isn’t as alone as she’s felt all these years. Everyone is angry about something and sometimes it can bring them all together, in a better way.
