Three stand on the edge of glory, yet only one can proceed.
First, the kid. An immigrant like yourself, but from one of the Districts - the ninth one, to be exact - instead of the shining, glittering mess of a Capitol. His view of the future was noticeably more peaceful than your own - his portraying as Thirteen as a refuge and the last hope of the districts, while progressive, were more muted than your own radical ideals - yet he seemed to hold a genuine desire to help others deep within his soul.
And yet his naivety was reflected in the fact that he had only just began his third decade of life, an age that wouldn't even allow him to enter some bars in the Capitol. His views of "once again walking in the sun" made you scoff in disbelief when you had first heard his speech, for it was common knowledge amongst most that when Thirteen inevitably rose to retake its place on the surface, there would be no other option to follow than all out war.
And besides, you hadn't put your very neck on the line back in Snow's home turf to let a kid take reign of an entire district and promptly squander Panem's one chance at bringing true peace to all.
The soldier was a different matter. Your senior by seven years, you had no doubt that she knew exactly what she was doing when she entered the game of politics. A mother and a native-born as well as a military woman, you think that, should she come out on top, you would not mind nearly as much as you would if the kid somehow beat out both of you.
And yet, she was a woman who had been born and raised in Thirteen as opposed to the outside world, and had (to your knowledge, at least) never set foot outside the confines of the subterranean complex aside from the occasional military drill in her life. She was competent, and yet, she was inexperienced as well, for life outside of Thirteen was different than anything she would ever know. Of course, there was the argument that you wouldn't do much better, being a former resident of the Capitol and all, but at least you had knowledge of how each district worked firsthand, along with a unique view and unique information on the Capitol itself.
And besides, a nation couldn't effectively be led by someone with little to no knowledge of its customs and inhabitants firsthand. Books and study would only get one so far in such a field - without firsthand, personal experiences, one was inevitably inferior as a leader as a whole.
And then, there's you. The outsider from the Capitol who discovered the existence of your new home purely by chance, and who entered the world of politics with a grand dream of blood and salvation alike. You are the radical candidate in this election - compared to the kid's dream of peaceful coexistence and the soldier's speech of relatability, your call for action and for war stands alone as the most aggressive stance towards the future of Thirteen and Panem alike.
And yet, who amongst the population is more worthy to lead Thirteen into the new age than yourself? You were one of only four who were brave enough to step up to the challenge, one of three to maintain enough support amongst the middle- and upper-class alike to push on to the very final day of the election process. You are a woman who has lived the majority of their life outside of Thirteen, and yet it is this very upbringing that makes you the logical choice to lead your adoptive home to their destiny as the salvation of Panem itself.
Tomorrow, the people of Thirteen will make their decision.
But today, you smile, for you know that regardless of the outcome, your adoptive home will not only live but thrive, with you as an outspoken voice for change no matter what your position.
And that...
That is something worth fighting for.
