rattling on the edge {puppy blitz}

I wipe the sweat off of my forehead, panting as I move to the bench to collapse. The trainer walks over to make sure I'm ok, and I let her know that I just need a break. I may be training a bit too hard for this, but I need to know what to do with my hands in fighting. Guess I'll need to learn on the spot soon enough.

I close my eyes for a moment and take deep breaths, trying to relax and slow my beating heart. The noise of swords clashing together rattles my consciousness. I can barely even lift one of the metal weapons, how will I be able to swing and much less kill.

The noise of movement besides me prompts me to open one of my eyes lazily to see a boy collapsing on the bench besides me. I want to ask what he's doing here, but instead I just close my other eye and try to continue to relax.

He lets out a loud laugh besides me and my eyes fly open and I push myself to a sitting straight position on the bench, about to ask him what happened. Then he talks.

"I guess I'd be hedging my bets too hard if I asked if you happened to know anyone that can get me a hit."

Of course some tributes are druggies. Of course.

I scoot a tiny bit further away from him, my uncomfortable feelings apparent in my face.

"Uh, no? Sorry." I say awkwardly, wondering what else could I say. Some random guy just walked up to me and asked if I had drugs, what could I say to that?
