Do you know what the hardest part of being a queen is? Retreating. It doesn't happen to me much, because I am obviously not only a good queen, but also a smart leader. However even great people make mistakes sometimes. And today was a very unfortunate day in the history of my long reign.
We had another battle with the boys from the other street, but unlike many others, it didn't end well for us. Usually we are marching victoriously around and organizing parades after capturing all the enemy soldiers quickly. But today our opponents tricked us by treacherously attacking our forces from behind and throwing rotten tomatoes at them. Our king and my so-called "husband" (we are not actually married, because I am thirteen, it is just for a game) was attacked and taken prisoner almost instantly and I commanded our general to retreat, telling him that I was going to lead the enemy away, risking my own freedom and dignity, while he had to retreat and regroup our forces to attack again in an hour and free the king.
And so here I was, running along the streets with a whole gang of boys chasing me. Worst of all, I wasn't dressed in my battle armor, because Cordelia took it away to wash it. Therefore, I had to retreat in my ball gown. And my ball gown is made of a huge sack with two holes in it. Cordelia drew a lot of beautiful little pictures on it representing my great deeds - battles, balls, a wedding, a coronation, etc. It made the dress more beautiful, but I didn't really care about that when I was running because all I could think about was holding that gown with my hand to avoid tripping and falling down. I also had to hold on to my crown which was made of an old little basket.
I was beginning to realise that I had to hide somewhere if I wanted to rest for a while. I could give up - theoretically. But what kind of queen would I be if I just stopped struggling? I had to be an example for my subjects. And to be completely honest, I didn't want to miss the surprise attack. So I made one last sprint, leaving the enemy behind, leaned against the wall next to some door and start banging on it frantically. I don't know if this will work, but I have to try. I can hear the voices of the boys already. They will be here in a minute. MUST HURRY!
If no one opens the door, I will have to run again. But I am so tired...
