She'd found the girl from Twelve first, because she had to. Without the dandelion, the martyr would never acknowledge her, and without the crown of thorns, they'd lose the survivor. Adelaide didn't like this precarious game of dominoes, but she had to finish playing the game.

Heh, the game.

Their first morning in the Training Center, Adelaide had walked right up to Dandy Gordon, her hands held open at her sides, her fingers splayed wide. She'd stopped not an inch from Dandy's nose and then gently kissed her cheek. "I don't have time to explain but we were meant to be allies. I'm Adelaide. Here, let me help you with that." The rest of the morning, Adelaide trailed Dandy around the gym. At lunch, she picked up Dandy's arm and slung it through her own. Gently leading her, they collected their trays and then Adelaide made a beeline for the District Twos.

She paused at the edge of their table, knowing it would be too presumptuous to sit. Before she had a chance to form the right thing to say - she knew how it mattered - her stomach rumbled.

She laughed, her cheeks heating. "After a workout like that, I feel like I could eat an entire chicken. Mind if we join you?"

Dandy Gordon

New places were not Dandy's favorite thing. After walking over the same roads of District Twelve over and over again, seeing the same cost dusted faces, standing on the tile of the gym was odd. It didn't give under her feet like dirt did, and all the trainers were too clean. Her piece of home, Wendell, was equally scrubbed clean by their stylists. She picked up a dagger, trying to judge its weight and how it would feel to throw it at a person. A live human. She had a hard time picturing it.

A girl came up to her, her pale skin in her face, her blonde hair falling across Dandy's wrists.

"I don't have time to explain but we were meant to be allies. I'm Adelaide. Here, let me help you with that."

This stranger kissed Dandy on her cheek and took the dagger from her hand. Adelaide took something else from her with that dagger, a responsibility Dandy didn't know she was caring with her. Adelaide was skinny, pale, and the definition of odd, but something about was comforting to Dandy. A wise girl taking her under her wing.

There was definitely something about Dandy that made people want to protect her, but for now she would use it to her advantage.

At lunch, Addy dragged her into the dining hall and brought her before the District Two tributes. They were both gorgeous. Dandy gripped Addy's arm tighter.

"Hi, I'm Dandelion." Why did she use her full name? She didn't even put her full name on her reaping paperwork and now she was introducing herself with it?

Maybe she should let Adelaide do all the talking, she was good at it.

ALINE LARKIN

Training was tough work. It was only the first day, but Aline was training as if she would be sent into the games immediately. Although she did train on occasion at home, it was not a frequent occurrence. Usually, Aline only trained when she felt the muse to do so. The motivation occurs, albeit extremely infrequently. Others think she is lazy, but it is more that it takes a lot in order to get her to accomplish menial tasks.

When lunch comes, the respite is appreciated. Not knowing who to sit by, Aline sits with her District partner Gregor. Back at home, she never had a conversation with him before. In all honesty, she barely knows who he is. As she attempts to start a conversation, two other girls walk up to their table.

Adelaide, the girl with lighter colored hair speaks first, asking if they can sit at their table. "Yes." Is the only reply that Aline gives. The other girl speaks next, introducing herself as Dandelion. Lucky for Aline, the girl from District 12 gave her name because she did not remember it. "My name is Aline."

It is not that Aline does not know how to converse with others. She does not know any topic they can talk about under the circumstances. Strange silence is worse than awkward conversation, therefore Aline asks a question that everyone will have an answer to. "What did you two get to eat? It all looks amazing and I do not know what to get." Food is the way to everyone's heart.
