"I can't believe I'm about to do this."
Wendell touched the plant and held it between his fingers. He rubbed the fuzzy stem of the herb. Took a closer glance at the veins that seem to run through it. For once, instead of a rock or piece of coal, he held something that actually had life, once upon a time. He shrugged it off as he pinched the stem, deforming it within his grasp and then clenching his fist without mercy. Opening his hand a moment later, he took note of the deformality that he had placed upon the helpless plant.
"We're supposed to use these to heal? To eat?" He asked the trainer again and they approved of a nod. "This looks gross. How do I tell if it is, or isn't poisonous... you're going to tell us the truth, right? Not kill us by our own damn ability to trust someone working for someone who wants us to die anyways?"
He challenged the female.
"Yes." Was her simple reply. Wendell scoffed.
"Whatever. Here goes nothing." The wrinkled plant in his hand lifted to his mouth and in went the green stem of whatever it was she called a clover. In district twelve, these were normally found nearer to the fence. Here, they were not to be overlooked and stepped on. They were food?
"Tastes like someone walked on it. If it keeps me alive - whatever. If I had known that, I would have fed my little brothers this instead of the meat my dad or myself could have." He jest as he took a gander over to a girl who had joined them. He picked off another clover stem, with the trefoil leaflets and offered it to her as a flower.
"Take this in an offering of good tidings. It'll make you stronger than anyone else here." He nodded to her. A coy grin appearing as he pushed the green plant to her."Try it. Don't you trust me, gorgeous?"
