Callie stood on the balcony, staring out at the skyline of the Capitol, her hands placed behind her back. She was never one for late nights out, but she had a purpose that night. Her hands reached up to her collar to adjust it—"always dress your best"—and she smirked at the words of her mother. She would be rolling in her grave if she knew why I was up here. Her dark eyes flitted to the entrance of the balcony before looking back at the lights that peppered the dark night.
She had trusted that the avox she sent would do his job delivering her note to the intended recipient. Callie hadn’t been a Gamemaker long enough to be able to demand respect, but the way the avox had looked at her as she gave him a small smile told her that it wouldn’t be much longer before her companion joined her. The sound of a sliding door caused her to turn around, her lips growing into a smirk as she saw the District 12 tribute standing in the entrance. “District 12, I’m glad you agreed to this visit.”
She thought little of the lower districts, especially in the Games, but she couldn’t deny that Wendell Gordon had left an impression on her with his private training station. There wasn’t much that she wanted from him, only the amusement of someone who would surely intrigue her. After all, how many smart mouths existed in the lower districts? She just wanted a preview of what she hoped he would deliver in the Games.
“I have to say, you stood out to me in your private training session. To answer your question, it’s boring sitting up there. You tributes can only do so much and even then, all of you always seem to do the same thing.” Callie took a few steps toward him, her bright robe making the slightest rustling sound with each step. She looked up at him, her head tilted with a certain curiosity as she examined the plaything. Her smile grew mischievously, but her eyes never seemed to match. “I have high hopes for you, District 12. Don’t disappoint me.”
