Rosemary Scarborough
Sage's death was something that stung all too deep for Rosemary Scarborough. She'd always been close with her whole family; especially Sage. After all, being rather close in age with one another, they understood one another's problems quite a bit better than the other people in the family seemed to. The two of them spent a very significant amount of time together in their lives, up until Sage decided to volunteer. Rosemary still couldn't understand when he volunteered, either. The day that it happened, she began to wonder if perhaps she was the reason. Had she done something wrong?
She could vividly recall Sage's body crumpling to the ground after a hit from Tamron Rhodes; the District Eleven boy. Sage's killer didn't seem like he wanted to end Sage's life, though. No, he almost seemed as if he felt sadness for him. It was even somewhat close to a sense of regret, perhaps. Although, Rosemary knew that Sage would have felt the same, if the situation were reversed. If Sage had killed Tamron, he wouldn't have enjoyed it. The young boy wouldn't have wanted it to happen.
Rosemary could recall her message to Sage over the lobster telephone, and that, due to her even trying in the slightest to make him feel better, her words had been censored. It was all because she tried to tell him who had killed Affron. To the day he died, however, he'd never know that it was Eva Hope. She just hoped that he could rest in peace, being with his loved one in death. Rosemary was slightly comforted by that, as well as that Eva Hope was not the one to return home to her family, even if it was someone of the same District as her.
Young Miss Scarborough was dreading Sage's funeral as it loomed closer and closer. Parsley and Thyme would be there, for sure. Rosemary would be attending as well. They'd also invited Sage's closest friend aside from Affron, Sycamore Bluebell. Sycamore was a sweet boy, but he'd sunk into a depression ever since the day Sage volunteered. Rosemary offered herself as comfort should he ever need it. Although, as of yet, the offer has not been taken by Mr. Bluebell. Sycamore was a kind boy, and seemed to hate the act of troubling others, which is why, Rosemary assumed, he had denied her help, even though he very clearly was in need of it.
Are you going to Scarborough Fair? Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme... Their names had come from an old song. Their parents, having known the song, and had a last name that fit perfectly with it, named each of their children after the herbs in the song. Parsley and Sage were siblings. Rosemary and Thyme are their cousins, and sisters of one another. Despite not all being direct siblings of one another, they grew up as one family, for the most part. Losing Sage was like losing a piece of herself, for Rosemary.
When Sage's body was brought home from the Games, it took Rosemary a while for her to be willing to see it. She didn't want to see how badly bruised and beaten her dear cousin was. Eventually, however, Thyme assured her it wasn't as bad as she thought, and she allowed herself to visit his body. He would be cleaned up before the funeral, but Thyme told Rosemary that it was important to see him before then. Reluctantly, she complied.
The boy's body was mangled and severely damaged, as Rosemary had assumed it would be. Tears streamed down her face upon seeing him, and although she wanted to look away, she couldn't get herself to. It was hard to take it all in and accept that he was gone, but here it was, right in front of her. There was no bringing him back. Scarborough Fair was one lyric short.
