Cara Bellami
It was almost a feeling of guilt, knowing that since she was no longer reapable, a child would have to go in instead of her. At the same time, however, she was glad that those chosen were not bearing names of any familiarity to her. It was neither Jackson nor Leah-Cassandra. Her cousins and such were safe as well. No one she loved was to die this year, as it had consistently been for years prior. So much weight was taken off of her shoulders when she knew that she wouldn't have to watch a death match that contained anyone she knew.
From what Jackson had told her, he'd encountered a victor in the book shop the other day. It was Mace Emberstatt, and according to her brother, he was quite kind. Cara wouldn't have expected such from someone who was a killer. Then again, she couldn't recall whether or not he willingly went into the Games. If it was involuntary, perhaps he didn't want to kill anyone in order to return home. She made a mental note to look into that later.
Cara herself had never encountered a victor before. She'd seen them on stage and on television, but never spoken to one directly. Perhaps it as for her own good, as it's likely her nerves would get the best of her. It would either be that, or she'd spill out a series of questions that she never should turn into true words of inquiry. Normally, Cara wasn't a nervous person, but certain circumstances could change that, and it's likely that meeting a victor would be one of those instances.
The young woman cared greatly for her siblings and other family members. Therefore, she didn't know what she would have done if Jackson or Leah-Cassandra were chosen to go into the Games. She had been assured by them that they would never volunteer themselves, which was at least a relief, but it didn't get rid of the ever looming threat of them possibly being the ones selected at the reaping one of these years to come. Cara could recall the fear she felt when she was younger and of reaping age. She'd always been terrified that her name would be the one to boom out over the crowds in District Ten's District Square. and she would be send to fight to the death against much more experiences fighters. After all, no one in the Bellami family had picked up anything more deadly than a farming tool in their whole lives.
After the conclusion of the reaping, Cara was the first home, and Jackson and Leah-Cassandra went home afterward to try to relax. This, however, didn't last long, as their parents, being the kind souls they were, had determined that they were going to throw a small celebration in honor of another year of safety for the Bellami family. Cara, of course was automatically safe, so the celebration was more oriented towards her dear siblings. The celebration included food, and no work for the day, which certainly felt good. A sigh of relief emanated from Cara's lips, and the family relaxed for the day, keeping their minds off of the fact that other children would be fighting to the death quite soon. Well, Cara didn't quite forget.
