DARQUESSCHAIN
The sky roared above me, the clouds clapping together angrily, in a feud where neither side would give in. I was in the middle of the war, my small body being pelted with bullets hat rained down from the sky. It was one of many storms that had raged through the district of late. The storms were destructive, tearing through the valleys and paddocks, making sure that it left a trail of destruction and it definitely wasn't going to be the last. Quickly I race down a path, the ground turn to mud beneath my feet. I feel the earth slip from below me, my body tumble towards the ground. Above me the sky chuckles, a deep sound that rumbles around me, wrapping itself around my body.
The dirt contrasts again my pale skin, almost as if it was trying to dull the brightness, dousing it in dirt and grime. A small moan of annoyance manages to escape my lips as I wipe a filthy hand along my brow, monetarily forgetting the mess I was in. I had had no intentions on being out in the elements today. Today was supposed to be that day that I stayed home, inside the comforts of four solid wall and a roof, sheltering me from the war outside. But the howling wind called to me, screaming at me, reminding me of the lack of protection my make shift animal shelter was not going to be enough to shield the beasts from the anger of the gods.
Hastily I pick myself off the ground, dirt clung to my porcelain skin, soaking into my pores as if I was a sponge. t felt as though it was going deep enough to enter my blood, contaminating it. The thought makes a shiver race through my body, but I shake it off, flecks of dirt joining the falling drops of water. They entwine themselves around each other before submerging into one, the muddy overruling the pristine water from the sky. It was almost as if the fight had changed. The sky was no longer roaring fiercely, but it was not completely silent, the sound of the rain dancing to the whispering wind.
Thats when the war was over.
But not for long as it seems because as it dies down a retched sound erupts, filling my ear drum, making my blood run cold. No... no, no, no. Before I know it my legs are moving. I knew what that sound was, I knew where it was coming from, who it was coming from. Quickly I round the corner, my feet slipping and sliding but despite myself I manage to keep my ground, my eyes focused ahead. My voice was stuck in my throat, like a lump that I could not swallow.
Thats when I see him. I see his small form not moving. A cry escapes my lips and I rush over to the calf. I had only seen it a few times before. It was only young- a couple months if I had to guess, its small chest was raising and falling rapidly, its eyes wide and scared. Not far from it was a fallen tree, its branches like broken limbs. Shattered.
I fall to his side, a gentle hand reaching to caress the small animals side reassuringly. "No... No, your going to be okay... It okay, Im not going to leave you. We''ll get some help and in a matter of days you will be back on your feet. Dont worry little one, you are safe now."
