lorenza aita.
Don't do as I have done...
As the final weapon pierced Lorenza's naked skin, she knew it was the end. She was undoubtedly dead, and wouldn't be making it home. Her body collapsed on the ground in pain. She could no longer hold herself upright. It may have seemed odd, but she was glad she hadn't let anyone volunteer for her and take her place in the current situation. Had she told her friends and loved ones that it was okay to volunteer, surely Renaissance or Luanna would have. She was too close with each of them to be able to bear seeing them die. Of course, it was likely that they felt the same way about Lorenza and didn't want to see her final moments, but she felt that it was her fate. It was meant to be her dying here, not Luanna or Renaissance. Not anyone else.
Win where I have lost...
Vivid memories of metting Renaissance for the first time flooded into her mind. She could recall the party they were at together when Lorenza had had a few drinks. The two girls ended up going off to a secluded outdoor area of the party and it ended with kisses of passion. Following their parting, it remained a long time before they saw one another again. Although, when it was time for the reaping of the 75th Annual Hunger Games and neither of them took a spot, they met once again at a post-reaping party. Remembering the moments they had shared prior, the girls were now together again. As romantic partners, the two were a couple for about a year before Lorenza was chosen for the Games.
Have where I have none...
No matter how protective of Lorenza that Renaissance was and how protective of Renaissance that Lorenza was in return, they had made an agreement not to take one another's place. The same deal was struck with Lorenza's closest friend, Luanna. Luanna Xena had always been a career, just like Rena was. They both taught Lorenza a few things to protect herself should she end up in the Games, but Lorenza was never a career herself. Not truly, anyway.
Don't let your demons drive...
Luanna and Lorenza met one another when they were young children and have been friends ever since. Their families knew each other, so they were with one another quite often. The friendship formed and never broke. Now, though, Luanna would be without her best friend, and that gave Lorenza a feeling of guilt, even though Wendell told her she shouldn't feel guilty about things. It was truly hard not to feel guilt when she was leaving behind so many people she cared about and that cared about her in return.
They'll just steer you wrong...
Perhaps there was an upside to it all, however. She would be with Angelo again, if there truly was an afterlife. If an afterlife existed, she'd get to see her brother again. As she lie on the ground, dying, she thought of this. Her koala, Arthur, had made his way out of her backpack and over to Lorenza. He looked thoroughly concerned. His adoptive mother was dying, and no matter how stubborn he had been when she tried to take him in, he still didn't want her to be gone.
You won't get out alive...
Angelo the pocket whale was picked up in the arms of Arthur, and they sat in what seemed to be sadness, watching as Lorenza started to fade into nothing. There was nothing anyone could do to stop it at this point, and the girl continued to have memories flowing through her brain. She thought of the day that her brother Angelo died. It was something she'd never forget. She'd been home, and heard her brothers fighting and arguing in the other room.
'Cause you can't unlive the pain...
Not thinking much of it, as the boys often did argue, Lorenza continued to lie down on her bed in her room. She just wanted to relax and not think about the chaos that was going on in life. Little did she knew, however, that it was more than just a usual sibling fight. When she exited her room and rushed downstairs due to hearing sobs of despair and screams of fright, she saw something worse than she ever thought she would have to. Angelo was lying on the floor, dead, because Benito had hit him much too hard, beating him to death.
You can't rewind to yesterday...
Lorenza was worse than that, though. She killed Basil Isley of District Six, and she did it in cold blood. She didn't do it by accident. Lorenza had hit the girl with a weapon and crushed her skull mercilessly. The guilt she felt was terrible after the fact, but could it have been as bad as what Benito felt after commiting accidental murder?
You might never find your place...
Ben didn't deserve to die for what he did, and no one told him he did. Lorenza, however, was told that she deserved to die for killing Basil. Her crime was worse and intentional, so perhaps she didn't deserve life. What would Rena think of the thoughts running through Lorenza's mind in her final moments? Perhaps she'd agree with the fact that Lorenza deserved to be punished, but perhaps not. It was truly hard to say what another individual could be thinking when you have no way of knowing.
In the time that remains...
There would be no more partying for Lorenza Aita. Her good days of fun and joy were over. Her days were over altogether. She'd never live to see another day, because Teddy, Chester and Rory saw it more fit that she die instead. Perhaps that was just what it was meant to be. Then again, if people only died when they were meant to, why in the world would Angelo have died? He was so young, and so fragile. He never deserved it. Lorenza wasn't like that, though. She had failed to protect Angelo the day of his death. Now she'd be joining him in the realm of the dead.
So if tomorrow never comes...
Renaissance and Luanna were safe. Benito was safe. Her parents were safe. For now, her alliance was alive. She wasn't sure how much longer they would be that way, and she had no way of finding out. Regardless, her death may have bought them time. Perhaps one of them would have the opportunity to return home to their family. She sincerely hoped it was Wendell, Cam or Walherich. She didn't want Teddy, Rory or Chester to live, though. They were the reason she was dying on the ground right then.
From living fast and dying young...
As her final moments passed, Lorenza was able to utter a final phrase.
I hope the best is yet to come...
"Goodbye, Renaissance. I love you."
In the time that remains...
Lorenza Camille Aita's final breath was taken.
For you...
She was gone.
Don't get me wrong...
BOOM!
The mistakes I've made along the way made me who I am today...
