There's tears in his eyes that he didn't realize were there.
He wasn't crying for anyone. He couldn't cry for anyone. He just wanted to cry without any reasons, but to cry. He's played up strength from day one, but he's been cracking piece by piece. Death seemed imminent at the start and yet he lived through it all. The death of the many that shined across the sky. He could name them all. He could see their faces again, but this time they were dead. Blank stares that ate away at his chest. His beating heart felt like it was going to burst, but he was fine. Everything was fine. That's until he stopped for a second as he was now somewhere new.
The smoke coming from the volcano and the land of black glass rises up higher and higher. He can feel the haze that still lingers in the area. Steam reaches his lungs and he can see the water as he dips his hand into it. It's hot and feels nice against his skin. All he can do is run his hand through it for a second and listen to the white noise of the area. Things felt so different now. They'd have to split up soon. Teddy knew that he couldn't stay with Chester forever, even if he wanted it to never end.
He gave Teddy something more than he would ever know.
Teddy felt like he could do anything now.
It was all thanks to Chester, Rhetoric, and Rory.
There's only one thing he couldn't do.
Save them from death.
There's more of the damned birds that send messages to others. A breath of air fills his lungs as he moves slowly towards the bird. The peg leg still blocked by his shirt, so the wound wasn't directly touching. He hobbles over to the damned thing as he speaks softly with a small smile on his face. He's moving his hands slowly to try and get it. Eyes on the word as it honks at him like Honkers had done.
"It's okay, birdie, I'm your friend. I promise."
