Aleiz Engel
A gentle breeze blew through the air sending leaves scurrying across the ground. Aleiz drew his jacket tighter as he made his way to the district square. Today, the victor of the seventy-sixth hunger games would stand in front of district seven giving a speech. Aleiz wasn't amused, but he knew he had to go. Chester was his friend even when he refused to talk, yet they were never as close as Chester was with Teddy.
Watching them journey through the game had been a story Aleiz enjoyed, but right now he wasn't looking forward to it. His heart was heavy, and his body ached. Working as a lumberjack wasn't the same without someone watching his back. Today was more than that.
As far as he knew, Chester had no family, and someone had to represent him to prove that he wasn't alone. Aleiz always watched from afar, but today he would make a difference. He was stand tall and proud representing a man many didn't know.
He stood in front of the crowd, Chester's face beaming over him. It didn't matter what others felt like. It didn't matter that Aleiz wasn't related to the man he tried for so long to save. Family ran deeper than blood, and Aleiz wanted to prove it.
He clapped slightly when the man took his place on the stage, and in that moment it took all he had to remain strong. Nobody would take away the love Aleiz lost when Chester's cannon blared through the fake sky.
When the speech was over, Aleiz carefully made his way to the stage knowing the risk involved, but he hadn't come to hurt anyone. He simply wanted to make a statement. Stopping just shy of the stage, he turned his gaze to the man standing above;
"Thank you for showing him friendship and compassion. It means the world to me."
