Years ago, the bullies at school nicknamed me Penny, and the tittle spread like wildfire throughout the entire District. They said an Orphan such as myself deserves nothing more than such a worthless coin. But to their dismay, I absorbed the label as a badge of honor. Having a nickname crafted me to be more unique then I already am. Every coin was crafted at a different time, layered with an array of history, just like myself and everyone else.
Quite a lot of people despise me for reasons I’m unable to fathom. There’s not a single soul whom I disapprove of or dislike. Solely kindness radiates from any words that breach from my thoughts and tongue. Yet regardless, hatred is still directed towards me from the majority in return. Fortunately, however, I discover the positive in any situation. The years of forced isolation gifted me with the opportunities of consuming myself in books. From how to properly deal with a house on fire, to plants that’ll cure the worse of plagues, or how to care for a farm’s fields and animals, I’ve intently read any and all that’s available.
A new chapter is being scribbled into my own book. The Truus family has taken me under their surname and adopted me. There’s little I know of them, but that they’ve lost two to the wicked games of hunger. Fear riddles my heart that animosity will be crafted against me further; though my head remains high that I’ll finally illustrate to a family of the benefits I can contribute. Unlike finished books, there’s no telling where my story may go.
