Bruce, having claimed he spotted a tribute watching us, although no one else in our alliance could see what he was talking about, had insisted that we go investigate. I told him, straight out, that if we wandered too much in the wheat fields, we could get lost, and I didn’t want that to happen. Therefore, after a bit of debate, I ended up staying behind in the wheatfields to wait for them to return. Unfortunately, by morning, they never did return. My assumption was they they either got lost, or ran into something that they had to fight. I just hoped we’d meet back up and not end up never finding each other again. That was certainly not my preference.
Regardless, as time went on and the anthem played, I saw the faces of the two dead, shining in the sky above me. I was glad it wasn’t anyone I knew, but I was also slightly angered that this one boy had killed them both. There was a feeling deep inside me that I had almost wished I’d been the one to kill them. Though, I wasn’t sure why. I wouldn’t have hunted them down just for that purpose. I only would have had the desire to kill them had they attacked me first. This wasn’t the case, though, as I’d never even encountered them.
As my alliance continued not to show up back where I was awaiting their arrival, I kept my axe tight in hand. I was glad I had, too, as I heard something or someone nearby, and could sense whatever or whomever it was, watching me. That was when I heard it moving closer. It wasn’t a mutt in the usual sense. This one was more human-like. It was like a large doll, almost, except it was alive. It certainly wasn’t a tribute, but I knew it would still want to fight.
”Back off, you disgusting child’s toy,” I hissed at it. I was angry enough that my alliance hadn’t returned, and I didn’t want to deal with this little monstrosity for any longer than I had to. Therefore, when it didn’t back down, I swung my axe at it. Perhaps I could take it down on my own. I certainly hoped so. If not, my allies would come back to nothing but a cannon shot.
I wouldn’t let that happen to me, though. I was stronger than this run-down piece of plastic. I wasn’t going to let it overpower me. How pathetic would it be, Zagreus Moon, taken down by a child’s toy? I wasn’t going to have that be the end of me. Instead, I would be the end of it. It wouldn’t be allowed to ‘live’ another day when I was finished with it.
