☾
A name starts everything.
Star's hands pulling out a name each for the unfortunate souls that get taken into the horrors that he's been through. All of it's different though. They weren't Basil and himself. They weren't going to have the same situation that they had. No one knew what horrors lay withing the confines of their arena. Watching from afar, they learned. Skills that others would have too. It was all chance for them. Everything came down to how soon or late you did something or got something. That's why he sat upon a couch with a glass of red wine in his hand that he's been sipping from silently. Star's words of encouragement coming from behind him as he watches the screen. Alone is how she had left him. The games were starting soon. The dreaded time of watching tributes beat one another up to a bloodied mess was coming.
Thoughts of his own entrance coming into his mind. Death upon the tips of his tongue as he expected to die day one. How death loved to toil with his heart, he would never understand why. Another sip of wine as he thinks of home where his brother and sister don't know who he is. Where he had gone. They were probably being filled with lies about him in that moment. Ring hangs calmly from a fake plant in the corner. He's trying to eat them, but it failing with it. Eyes rolling at his friend that had seen the same horrors that he has. A comforting thought in his negative mind. A sigh escapes his throat as he remembers watching other victors and what they did for their tributes, but nothing screamed helpful to me. Looking for sponsors was going to be a challenge, but he would do it.
They rise like the new generation of tributes that'd be forgotten once they have perished in a bloody game. The chaos break after the timer dips down. Hand tightens around the glass in his hands as he watches them scramble looking for blood. His own bloodbath had been bloody, but he escaped with his head, unlike others. Gregor and McCarthy's bodies were left behind. Eyes glance to Serena and Ansel as they fight in the bloodbath. Ansel was doing interestingly as he wasn't getting hit at all. People too interested in cutting up the District Three tributes. Ree Fer and Adelaide Throes coming to his head as he shakes them away. Serena's allies leave without her.
Heart hammers in his chest as he holds his glass of wine tightly. She's still fighting even when it's four against one. His breath is tight in his throat as his bloodshot eyes stay glued to the screen. Wounded beyond what was normal. He knew how it felt to be that wounded. Wendell had made him like that. Emberly had cut him apart like that. Lux Pelotte had made him bleed close to the brink of death. Obnoxious words from the announcer comes through the screen as he tells of Serena's battle with the four girl, three of which were careers. If anything, this proved that she had guts. She was alive. His heart falls back down to normal as he stands up with his glass of wine, chugging the rest down his throat. He sets the glass upon a table as he leaves the room.
That's when he sets to work getting Serena and Ansel sponsors.
They'll need them more than ever.
After the charming of a few capitolites, Teddy's back in the room with a new glass of red wine and a granola bar that he had snatched from some kitchen on the way to Six's suite. The screen glows in the dark with bright colors and words from obnoxious announcers. Star's already come in twice telling him to not watch the Hunger Games in the dark, but he's tired of following her rules already. Who needed her anyways. She did draw the names that were made to make Six suffer. A roll of the eyes as his green eyes follow the tributes that were being shown. The snake that the girl from Nine had gotten was shown. Others finding their allies, like he had on Day One. Ring yawns from across the room with a loud noise. Only a second it takes to get up and pat the koala's head to shut him up.
That's when he can hear Serena on the screen, spouting in a drunkenness. The first thing that comes across his mind are the words 'Uh oh' as he moves back to his seat with drink in hand. The lights come on as Star comes in. Words leaving her lips as he moves his hands to the sudden shining of light that hits his eyes. She's not happy. She was never happy with him. Maybe it was the grovelling that he had done to tribute families that she didn't understand, or the licking of his own wounds when he felt like he was collapsing in on himself every moment. He's terrified that he's going to ruin the kids that he was given. A sip from the glass as he listens to Star.
"More wine, seriously Theodore? You had a whole bottle by yourself yesterday."
A shrug of his shoulders is all it takes to get a sigh from her. Wine seemed to make him at least able to feel like he's in control. The granola bar wasn't very good after taking a bite from it. Star moves next to him as he watches her for a moment. Terror in his chest as he glances back to the screen. His voice escape from his chest as he looks to Star. An offering of kindness, even if it was the thing she was complaining about.
"Want a glass?"
She doesn't reply at all, just stares at the screen. He calls an avox over to pour her a glass too. Then he can see why she's staring so intently at the screen. Ansel and Serena, they were there with their allies. Three alliances of four. Eight against Four, but a surprise attack. Teddy's heart drops as he watches a group of them attack Serena first. Blood comes from her skin as his heart beats. C'mon Serena. She's not running like he was hoping for her to right away. There's a second that he's glued to the screen where he can remember Rhetoric's wounds. The sound of a gun ringing in his ears as he can see blood again. A glittering sword given to Clementina as she prepares to cut a head off from it's shoulders. Then he can see them. Ansel and Serena are there instead.
Blood comes first. It's too late. It's always too late. Green eyes watch as Ansel kills Serena as the first death of the 77th Hunger Games. He wants to scream. He wants to blame it on Ansel, but it's his fault that Serena died. Words that he regret to tell them. It's you or them, but not each other. They're your home, not the enemy, but even in the games home could also be your enemy. He doesn't shout, but he tosses his glass across the room, until it shatters against a wall. Remote in his hand as he shuts the screen off despite Star's annoyed words.
As he walks past the avox in the corner to heading out of the room, he speaks to them. Words caught in his throat as all he wanted to do was lock himself in a room and scream. Scream until his lungs give out or until Ansel Khiev regrets it all. Either way he glances at the avox, who is looking worriedly at him as another passes by to clean the mess of red wine and glass in the corner.
"I'm gonna need that whole bottle in my room."
Taking the bottle from the avox's hands he takes a gulp of red wine and ignores Star's insistent angry words to come back. If Ansel wanted out, he would help him, but ripred help him for when he does. Teddy is going to kick his ass for what happened to Serena. Star's shouts of Ansel killing Alice leaving his ears as he slams his own door shut for the night.
He was wrong about everything.
Teddy was always dead wrong.
