Bolt Jewel
my roots
I was walking along the town square with a pen and paper in hand. I was trying to think of something new to invent, but unfortunately, I was having a block of sorts. Maybe it was the fact that I was working on too many things at once. I wasn’t sure, and I didn’t have the time to really put my finger on it. Being here in Three, I got the idea that if you weren’t quick on inventing things, then you would fall to the wayside quickly. You weren’t considered much of anything, but when you came from a family of inventors, it was a different story. From what my parents told me, people were cruel. I wasn’t sure why they were cruel, but I bet it had something to do with us taking up a chunk of the work here in three. To my surprise, there weren’t as many inventors as their used to be here in three, either that, or people just didn’t care enough anymore. Regardless of what their reasoning was, I tried to keep myself busy all the time, which is why I had the pen and paper in hand, ready to scribble something on the paper that I could work with for a bit. Anything really to keep my mind off of whatever all of Panem was bringing on themselves.
I looked up for a moment and my eyes were caught by a boy with a guitar off in the distance. I only knew it was a guitar because my father owned one that was like it. Of course, I tried not to maintain too much eye contact because I was busy. I looked back down at my pad, twiddling the pen in my hand, making an off beat while I was trying to think of the next thing I wanted to work on. Obviously I was having more problems than usual, seeing as I would have something by now. Maybe it was the stress from the games that was wearing down on me. I looked up at the sky for a moment, trying to distract myself just enough. I was starting to think that this was becoming fruitless, and the last thing I needed was a headache. If it was meant to be, then it was meant to be. Obviously it wasn’t, and maybe I just needed to be around my family in order to help me drum up some inspiration. I wasn’t sure, but I got up from the bench that I was occupying.
And then my eyes met the boy again that was sitting off in the distance. I couldn’t quite explain it, but there was something about the way he looked that had me curious. Well, maybe it was the fact that he was toting a guitar with him that was adding to his elusiveness. I stepped back for a second and took a seat back on the bench, holding onto the pad and pen like it was a brace. I wasn’t sure why, but I felt slightly weak in the knees, and it was probably because I haven’t eaten yet. I needed to stop doing that.
I got up for the second time, this time making my way in the direction of the boy that looked like he didn’t have much to do right now. When I passed him, I just simply looked at him and smiled, I wanted to take in all the features before having to make my way home. I did hope that he didn’t mind, but there was something about him that I wanted to know more about.
Maybe he was my next project.
Who knew.
