I think I lost my mind a while ago
'Cause I've been seeing some ghosts
And I'd be lying if I told you I'm fine
But I lieSomeone's watching you.
It's a gaze that only serves to be defined as out of place along your skin; like a blue moon dotted upon an orange horizon or a flicker in the dark. It's fleeting moment, for as you fall into time's clutches and seconds drape themselves over your shoulders you almost don't realize the unfamiliar feeling of being watched. It's suppressed beneath the feeling of boredom, boredom as you scan the training center for tributes in the same predicament as you. They train and leave dummies in tatters and synthetic limbs at their feet, you watch mockery and it's boring.
Then flicker.
It comes again, a shivering down your spine as you allow yourself to play with the knife between your fingertips, pressing the point of the edge against your fingertips but never quite daring yourself to draw blood. Someone's watching you and their gaze doesn't belong embedded into your skin.
You notice it this time, the way the sensation splits your attention in two. For while you watch tributes and scan the surface of your blade, there's a drumming in the back of your mind. For the mind hidden behind those celestial orbs burning holes in your skin could be thinking anything, from how they'll skin you alive to the weakness buried closer to the surface of your skin. On this red spectrum, the thought makes you feel closer to the realm of hunted and not hunter.
No, unacceptable.
You stick the point of the blade into the table, stand and spin around to the first person you find, it's a boy. Features blessed with dark hair and a wiry and almost nervous composure, you decide he's prey. You sneer. "Hey," you take three steps closer to him, hands no longer idle but clenched into red fists at your sides.
"What the fuck do you think you're looking at, fucker?"Yeah, these thoughts I would never speak out loud
I've seen you cry, but I've never seen you
Shout like a hurricane
These shots don't ricochet
