Dymas Nyx District 4 Breathe. Relax. Jump. Don't jump - "Aye!" Voices echo over and over again as the chlorinated scented room fills the noses of anyone who enters the swimming pool area. The prospect of the swimming pool wouldn't pull in some, but for one born of the water, my skin shines with the moisture that blankets my skin. I bend over, shaking my head, throwing water dropletts in every which direction. I shake like an animal, ridding myself of the collected chlorinated water. The first few minutes was used to getting acclimated to the water, but as the water's surface starts to still itself, I wander over to the diving boards that are offered. Two sit side by side, although ones height severely differs. A smile creeps upon my lips in jest. Who knows? Maybe falling from high places might even be offered for this arena, whatever it is. Cliff diving is such an adventurous sport that I've done it whenever I was able to at home. Mom didn't like it, but it wasn't up to her to jump with me. Although, it also didn't help that Momma T egged me on half of the time and not to mention, she was the one that would stand beside me and push me off the first time when I was eight. The fit that was given to her when I surfaced was enough to ground her for a month, but at that age, I thought she was going to be punished. The punishment only lasted a week of silence between the two before Momma T began to secretly let me cliff dive. This diving board in front of me though is no where near the height that I was thrown from at such the tender age. This was a mere stepping stone away from the surface. "No head count to be weary for. Apparently Eva doesn't like swimming." I whisk away a few stray drops of water from my face, clearing my vision. My feet move quickly against the vertical steps, still dry since none have cared to join me. This isn't training. It's fun. "Cowabunga!" My voice springs against each wall, bouncing off each other as the wind hits my body. My body turns- summersaults in the air until it breaks the stilling water with a gentle splash. I fall under the surface, freely floating from within a liquid state - forgetting my ever present situation. No death or dying here, obviously, and no other tributes either. My eyes peer out into the pool, and the air in my lungs hold still. A few bubbles escape my nose and my body is littered with tiny oxygen bubbles that leech off my skin. I swipe at them, and watch as the thousands of particles race to the surface and I follow suit as my lungs crave the oxygen enriched air. Water slings backward as I break surface and throw my head back, breathing in to my lungs full capacity. My hands move to my eyes to clear them only to reveal the first person I've seen interested in my home away from home. "How long you been standing there, mate?" |
