Aleiz Engel
Today I'm gonna love my enemies
Reach out to somebody who needs me
Make a change, make the world a better place
'Cause tomorrow could be one day too late
Reach out to somebody who needs me
Make a change, make the world a better place
'Cause tomorrow could be one day too late
It was just another day. Aleiz planned on heading down to the orphanage to share stories with the younger children like he did so many times before, but today he had something else planned. A little bit of money sat heavily in the worn pocket of his jeans. Many hours went into saving the money, and instead of buying himself a nice meal that would only last a few moment, he was going to buy a little treat for the less fortunate. Sometimes it was easy to get caught up in the moments of life. It was easy to forget about how blessed he truly was when it came to those who never knew when they'd receive their next meal. Today he would change that. Not only would he share stories about a fictional world he wish existed, but he would provide them with something to fill empty tummies so they would hopefully rest well tonight.
The corners of his lips slowly spread from ear to ear as he drew a ragged jacket tighter around his shoulders. An icy chill sliced through the air cutting him straight to the bone. Winter was his least favorite holiday, and yet he knew that others were in need. Sometimes he ventured into the woods just to chop down some trees so the families with young children had the firewood to make it through the night. Frigid temperatures made it hard to sleep especially when his teeth chattered rapidly against one another. Every hair stood on end as he drew the jacket tighter. His heavier jacket was given to a friend, and that friend now slept beneath the ground as worms and every other bug known to mankind fed on his remains - Aleiz missed him more than anyone would ever know.
Dead grass crunched beneath his feet as he marched through the district rubbing his hands together doing whatever he could to keep himself warm. Every ounce of his being ached for those who struggled with the winter months, but they were almost over. Spring was on its way, and Aleiz could tell because the temperatures were getting warmer, yet it was never warm enough to keep him from feeling cold. He missed the rain that fell instead of the snow. He missed the thunder and lightning. He missed the times he sat on the porch watching the rain.
It was all so close yet so far away.
His smile grew even larger as he ventured into one of the shops in the midst of the district square. Dark eyes darted back and forth from one item to the next, and he wanted to buy them all, but he knew it would cost most than he had. That was okay though because he marched over to the tables holding various sweets. Momma always said it wasn't good to eat sweets for dinner, however, it wasn't his meal he would have. The kids would love it, at least that was what he hoped for.
