Sleep was varied by the obstacles of cold and uncomfortable sleeping positions. The tempting steam was nothing that I wanted to get into. Taunting me with warmth, but death after made my head rule over what I really wanted. As the night fell, I held onto the thought that I would soon be back into my love's arms. He would have kept me warm - his arms wrapped around mine as I braved the cold. Just as I started to drift off to sleep, I felt his presence surround my mind and with that, I felt at ease as I slipped into a teeth-chattering slumber, often marred by the spell of chills.
Morning came by too soon. I don't even remember seeing the anthem, but the sound of the anthem played in my dreams. The melodious melody lulling me off into a newer part of sleep, keeping me until the dawn of the new day arose and I began my trek through the snow.
Away from the springs, I never looked back. I had a canteen of full fresh snow melted water, boiled by the springs. At least there was something from the hot pools that I could take with me. I knew in a few days time, I'd find myself back at the pools, longing to have the heat surround my skin.
"Winter sucks. Ever hear of anyone wanting to escape district 4? No! This is why!" My voice shivers, quaking with a frosted fog escaping from my lips. I could only wish that the armor that was sponsored last night would create and savor the warmth that my body was loosing so quickly. My body has never felt the bite of a cold night. My limbs have never suffered the pin needles bite from a gust of icy weather.
My lungs hurt so bad, but I have to keep moving. There are dangers lurking around every corner. The blue skies are no where around and instead a grey hue looms above my head. A dank feeling clouds my mind. With every step, I begin to draw my attention away from whatever was going on in front of me. The endless scoops of snow like ice cream in a bowl. Bumps of snow with no where to hide. I guess I went the wrong way.
"Come on. Where am I going?" I question and find myself falling to my knees for a moment. I cradle my body together. The shin guards took the chill away from the snow, defending myself from the melting snow to dampen my clothes.
I coddle myself, wishing for warmth. "Okay. Warm weather. Warm ocean water. Sunny days. Surfing. Warm words. Warm memories." A smile creeps across my face as I start to think of a person that I am fighting for. "Angel."
I flail for a moment, spreading my arms out and then looking to the sky in hopes that someone would be watching. I want to send a message. I want everyone to know that I am doing well. I fall backward, stretching out my arms and in a few quick sweeps, I write a message for my heart that I left behind in the district.
A snow angel marks itself in the ground and after a few more sweeps, I lay there and close my eyes. Completely at ease, my heart is warm. My limbs renew themselves and I stand and gaze at my white creation. I cross the front of my chest with my arms and then point to the sky.
He knows what it means, and with my attention away, a low grumble catches my ears. My heart sinks and then I see the white fur of a creature and the teeth do pose a risk to me. I"m ready for this. I will not paint the angel red with my blood today.
"Back off bitey."
