Ms/Mr Capitol Pageant - Final Results

As the curtains shimmered beneath rainbow stage lights, Algernon stepped into the brightest one with a smile on his face. He had a single card in hand; one that read the names of the first and second place winners of his pageant. Nothing had thrilled I’m more than to critique their beautiful fashion, witness their talent, and listen to their eloquent interviews. He had once been in their position, heart pounding in his chest as the audience cheered and the judges looked on. He hadn’t won the crown, but simply being there made him feel recognized.

”Ladies and gentlemen!”

He silenced the crowd.

”This is moment you’ve all been waiting for; after hours of deliberation, the judges have finally decided on the winners.”

They were all so amazing, but there could only be one crown and one sash. He paused to keep the crowd on edge, then cleared his throat. ”First, we will announce our second place winner.”

He read the name loud and clear.

”Our second place winner – also known as Mr. Congeniality - is Jethro Weston!”

Cheering, clapping, smiles, camera flashes. Algernon hoped he would enjoy the fame; he earned it.

”And now, the winner of our wonderful competition…”

Dramatic pause.

”Is the one, the only…Bambi Salcedo!!"
