Appearance:

Ferne is a pretty young woman, with long, flowing, brown hair framing her fair face. The pale skin on her face is struck through with thick, dark eyebrows that overshadow more innocent-seeming chocolate eyes. These are fringed with dark lashes that only add to her innocent looks.

Ferne is of average height, standing at 5”5, and her body is thin and lithe. Her style of fighting is to avoid her opponent’s blows until they tire out - her thin body allows for quick strikes and avoidance better than brute strength.

Personality:

Unlike many of the other Careers, Ferne is quiet, preferring to observe and learn rather than throw herself into situations, particularly social ones. She is a calculating mind as well, nearly always having a plan of action. She figures if she ever gets her chance at the Games, she will only ally with the other Careers long enough to make off with some food and weapons, then go it alone for the rest of the Games.

Ferne is not the most deadly of fighters, preferring to keep distance between herself and her opponent. She likes bows and throwing knives more than swords or spears, as she feels they require a bit more finesse and don’t require her to get her hands as dirty.

She is difficult to get a read on, keeping her face carefully neutral at all times. She keeps people at an arms-length, and even if someone managed to become something of a friend to her, she isn’t the most loyal of people. The only people she feels any sort of responsibility or loyalty to is her family. All in all, Ferne is a closed book, waiting for the right person to come along to figure her out.

History:

Ferne hasn’t had the overly lavish life of some citizens of District One, but she hasn’t had a hard go of it. Her parents are respected jewelers, making some of the flashy jewelry sported by government officials in the Capitol as well as in the District. Ferne is the oldest sibling, followed by one younger brother, Cedar.

Ferne always got good marks in school and had a small group of popular friends that adopted her into their fold from an early age. She never quite felt like she fit in for whatever reason, but she could pretend quite well that she did.

Eventually, Ferne began her Career training. She never cottoned on to the brutal techniques of some trainers, instead choosing to refine her aim with bows and throwing knives. Ferne is nearing the age at which most Careers volunteer, and she is ready for her chance to throw her name into the ring. She isn’t sure what she will do if she isn’t able to go into the Games, but one can hope. She just wants to make her mark in the world and not be lost to oblivion.
