Merida Riptide.
Merida was in a rush, as usual. She was carrying huge bags with food and her kids were waiting for her at home. But this day was different, no matter how ordinary it seemed. It was the birthday of her twin adoptive daughters - the first children she took in. She had knitted cute dresses for them and there was some candy in one of her bags. The day just couldn't get any better. Meri had everything planned in advance with the other kids, they all saved birthday surprises for the twins and now it was time for the celebration to begin.
She was feeling like she could burst with all the excitement filling her. Her big girls were turning seventeen. For her, the day when she celebrated her seventeenth birthday was the beginning of her own adult life, and, a few months later, the beginning of motherhood.
Merida remembered the day when she first saw two crying children at her cousin's funeral. It had never been a question for her whether she could handle it or not. Deep in her heart, she just felt the love for these lost kids. And when the funeral was over and Meri found out that the children were going into an orphanage, she just grabbed their hands - one kid on each side and walked away with them. They never left her home since.
Once again, she smiled and continued moving forward. She could feel the fresh wind blowing in her face and the sun was shining. Suddenly she noticed a man with a camera. An idea popped up in her head: maybe she could ask him to take a family photo for her? It would be a great memory for the kids when they would all grow up!
She made a few steps in his direction...
"Excuse me? Um..."
Awkward. This is awkward.
"Could you please take a photo of my family?"
That was a nice way to start a conversation with a total stranger, isn't it?
