[attr="id","teddyText"]An eruption sounds in his ears as the lava flows once more from a volcano long dormant.

An echo of a cry for help as he can feel the tingling in his leg that no longer exists. An arm slung around his side being Titus Seraphim's until it catches up to them. A push forward as the lava rolls over Titus' form. Another scream comes from his throat, but it's only silence as he continues moving forward down the volcano. Adelaide and Chester appear next to him with arms wrapped around his frame like a comforting, but terrifying sense of comfort. Why? Why were they helping him? As soon as they came, the faster they died. The images of Lux and Titus standing over their dead bodies. Tears falling from his face as Emberly Lowe stares at him with that hatred from before. Ree's blood is covering his hands again and like a volcano sound erupts as he relives stabbing her over and over again. Eyes fading away like the sunset before them. Then there's Lux who looks as threatening as always with a cold heart.

Everything shatters in a cold sweat and a silenced scream as everything comes back to reality.

Everything is so hot like the lava that threatened to burn his skin long ago.

Hands reach for the vial of nothing on his nightstand as he twiddles with it thinking of Laide. The cards are next with a worn pack from gradual use that Teddy has for Ree's cards. After those is the damn photograph that he lays facing down because he can't look at the face of Ansel Khiev without thinking of the lives that were lost and the innocence that doesn't exist. As he climbs out of bed, Star's already come into his room with a glass of water in her hand. Hands instantly go up in a defensive manner as he speaks to her in defense.

"Nope. Nope. Nope. I am up Star!"

Silence until a cup of water is splashed upon his face. A groan comes from his throat as he swings out of his bed preparing for the trip back to the capitol.

The poor souls who are being sent to their possible deaths. The feeling of black sand comes across his hands as he lets his spine shiver and pushes away from the feeling as he marches out of his home in District Six and into a Justice Building waiting for the poor boy and girl that end up getting their names pulled or worse volunteer like Aeson Kight had done. Tiredness in his eyes from Stella's visit and the reuniting with Parson, who he didn't know how to feel about anymore. Jacob was somewhere among the crowd of people watching from below as he's shoved in the spotlight with Star.

As soon as the reaping happened, his heart stopped once again.

Eyes that match Vesper's in innocence. Eyes that look overworked and tired. Both had lives. Both had family. Both were like him in theory. Fingers extend along the pocket of his slacks in an anxious manner. Death hides in their shadows like they had once done to him. A breath of air as he shuffles onto the train to wait for his tributes. Their names feel so foreign, but also not foreign. Faline Varley and Ezekiel Alexander. Two more names to add to his collection of failures possibly. Fingers tremble as he looks across the train's interior to grab a glass of wine to calm himself.

Was it him or was the train getting hotter by the second?

Ring whines from a corner that Teddy had left him in to eat at. Plants of high quality that the capitol provided for him to feed to Ring at home. Silence fills the compartment as he lets his nerves disappear for a moment. Vulnerability be damned. Legs taken up to his chest as he watches Ring eat on plants for a minute or so, until the sound of footsteps fill his ears. He doesn't even look up at the faces of the tributes that were meant to be in his care. All his hands could do were reach out to Ring and pat his head as he composes himself back from the images of Aeson breaking Vesper down and Ansel cutting Serena up. Whispers of the dead that don't need to be in his ears when he makes a first impression with new kids and new mentees that will inevitably rip his heart out and stab it over and over without knowing it.

Everything felt like an explosion now, even the smallest of tremors in his mind.

"S-sorry for not standing up and greeting you. Dreadful etiquette, I know, but I am tired of etiquette and keeping up an image."

A frown pulls onto his face as his fingers run through Ring's fur on top of his head, even getting a low growl of annoyance that makes Teddy release his grip and finally rises onto his feet, crossing his arms looking at the two mentees that were his. Faline and Ezekiel. A hand taps on his arm as he speaks once more with a different tone.

"You know who I am and I don't know anything about you two."

A silent moment of thought before he speaks again.

"I'll help you where I can though. The rest is up to you though."

Arms uncross form one another as he pushes them on a railing and looks out the window with his mind filled with Ansel, Serena, Aeson, and Vesper. Four names, four tributes, four graves. No more graves. Why did he have to be the one to escape that statistic of growing District Six graveyards that continues to grow by two every year. A sigh from his lips as he looks back to Faline and Ezekiel. Faline is small, but from what he saw at the reaping of her courage to ask a girl out in front of everyone made him trust something in his chest with her. Ezekiel is taller than her, but from the bags under his eyes gives him away for being apart of the district's field or maybe he wasn't, Teddy wasn't sure, but medical skills could be useful. A small smile of pity fills his face before he replaces it with a normal blank face as he speaks the last words he was going to say for now and let them have a chance to ask him about anything they wanted.

"Anything you want to know?"

Saying goodbye was one of the hardest parts of life, but it was one that Zeke knew all too well. Tears streamed down his father's face as the peacekeepers pulled them away from one another. For the longest time it was just the two of them, and now it was nothing more than that. But Zeke only hoped his father would pull through it.

Losing mom was hard enough, and then it was worse when Haley passed away within the walls of a medical facility. What would happen if his face appeared in the sky, and a broken father buried his only remaining relative? Would the broken man stand with his head held high, or would he fall into the final resting place and dance with his family again amongst the stars in the sky?

A heavy sigh left his chest as he tried pulling himself together. Shaky hands ran across his face trying to wipe his own tears away. It didn't matter how many people saw the tears. It didn't matter to him how many times his world turned upside down - sometimes it stopped spinning long enough for his soul to topple over, and yet Zeke never once questioned anything.

Until now.

But as the door opened, he stepped outside into the light of day. It as a nightmare, and within the walls of his mind faint screams echoed from ear to ear. A young boy begged for his father, his mother, someone to wake him from the pits of despair. Yet he knew differently because the pain was too real, and in the many stories he heard, it didn't hurt in dreams. Regardless of the dream, the world was peaceful even through muffled screams.

He didn't know how to fight - Zeke was a medic. He worked in a hospital caring for the sick. Sometimes his efforts paid off, but most of the time, the sick died, and the only thing Zeke knew to do was comfort the distraught family members. Just sitting down and talking to them meant the world to him since he understood their pain just a little.

Now it was just a matter of going through the motions and do as he was told. Even when Zeke took his first steps onto the train, nothing mattered anymore. The life he knew as behind him, and his future held terrible things. And just as he turned the corner, he saw Teddy seated with his legs drawn to his chest holding onto some sort of exotic animal.

It was impossible to imagine the life Teddy lived now. Going through the games and surviving seems worse than going in and dying. At least the dead didn't have to live knowing they took the life of an innocent person. But dying was the end. Nothing remained after that unless there was an afterlife. What kind of life would that be?

He stood silently, head slouched forward, a frown etched across his face. Formalities didn't matter anymore. Yet he listened as Teddy spoke. Zeke digested every word, but his mind wasn't aware of what was really happening. In a way, it almost felt like Teddy didn't care anymore, and yet Zeke just stood frozen trying to think of an escape. The only thing holding him back was his love for his father.

He let out a sigh; "Should I just go ahead and pretend that the tributes are just patients that I'm unable to save?" He lifted his gaze just a tiny bit trying to comprehend what he just said. It shouldn't be like that because everyone deserved a chance, and now he was writing them off like they weren't deserving of anything.

It wasn't the greatest feeling in the world, but he was tired, and truthfully he did care. The more he said he didn't care, the easier it would become.
